27. The Favor of Imam Husain (a.s.) to a Mourning Reciter

On Tuesday, 23/4/83 (solar), corresponding to 24 Jumada al-Awwal 1425 AH, at the “Sham-e-Ghariban” gathering for the late Haj Shaykh Ahmad Khordmand in the house of the late Ayatollah Haj Sayyid Muhammad Rouhani, the eloquent preacher Hujjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Haj Shaykh Asadullah Javanmard recounted from the pulpit:

A man named Agha Musharrafi, from Yazd, who had become head of telecommunications in Khoy, was known for his companionship with scholars.

One day, he was informed that a certain Sayyid who was a reciter of elegies (rozeh-khwan) had passed away. He was very saddened that his friends were passing away one after another while he was far from Yazd and could not attend their funeral or memorial gatherings.

So he prayed two units of prayer and gifted its reward to the soul of that Sayyid. That night he saw him in a dream, and took hold of his finger firmly and asked about his situation.

The deceased insisted: “Let me go!” But he (Musharrafi) would not let go, so the Sayyid jokingly teased him and went away.

He got up, performed ablution, prayed two more units of prayer, and went back to sleep. Again, he saw him in a dream, held his finger firmly and asked:

"How was your situation?"

The deceased replied:

"As soon as they buried me, Nakir and Munkar (the questioning angels) came to me. One said: ‘His beliefs are correct.’ The other said: ‘He was too talkative in religious matters(furoo deen)!’ and they attacked me with a spear. All of a sudden, my master, Imam Husain (a.s.) appeared and said: ‘He belongs to me — leave him alone.’ So they let me go and left."
