Yunus Ayah 59

Let them rejoice — meaning the Shi‘a — for it is better than what their opponents gather of family, wealth, and children in the abode of this world.

By Allah, O ‘Ali, you were not created except to worship your Lord, and so that the landmarks of the religion be known through you, and that the obliterated path be set aright by you. Indeed, whoever strays from you has gone astray, and none will be guided to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, who is not guided to you and to your guardianship. And it is the saying of my Lord, Mighty and Majestic: “And most surely I am most Forgiving to him who repents and believes and does good, then continues to follow the right direction” — meaning, to your wilayah.

And my Lord, Blessed and Exalted, has commanded me to make obligatory upon your creation what He has made obligatory of my right; and indeed your right is made obligatory upon whoever believes in me. Were it not for you, the Party of Allah would not be known, and by you the enemy of Allah is known. Whoever meets Him without your wilayah meets Him with nothing. And Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has sent down to me: “O Messenger! Deliver what has been revealed to you from your Lord — meaning regarding your wilayah, O ‘Ali — and if you do it not, then you have not delivered His message.” Had I not conveyed what I was commanded regarding your wilayah, my deeds would have been rendered void; and whoever meets Allah, Mighty and Majestic, without your wilayah, his deeds are rendered void. It is a promise fulfilled for me, and I say only the word of my Lord, Blessed and Exalted, and what I say is from Allah, Mighty and Majestic — He revealed it concerning you.

And most surely I am most Forgiving to him who repents and believes and does good, then continues to follow the right direction. (Quran 20:82, M. H. Shakir)

O Messenger! deliver what has been revealed to you from your Lord; and if you do it not, then you have not delivered His message. (Quran 5:67, M. H. Shakir)

99-/4919 _7- Al-Tabrisi said: Abu Ja‘far al-Baqir (peace be upon him) said: “The grace of Allah is the Messenger of Allah, and His mercy is ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (blessings of Allah be upon him).”

/4920 _8- The Shaykh in his Amali said: Abu ‘Umar informed us, who said: Ahmad informed us, who said: Ya‘qub ibn Yusuf ibn Ziyad narrated to us, who said: Nasr ibn Muzahim narrated to us, who said: Muhammad ibn Marwan narrated to us, from al-Kalbi, from Abu Salih, from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: “By the grace of Allah — the Prophet (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family); and by His mercy — ‘Ali (peace be upon him).”

/4921 _9- Ibn al-Farisi: Ibn ‘Abbas said: “Say: By the grace of Allah and by His mercy; therefore let them rejoice; it is better than what they gather. The grace from Allah is the Prophet (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family), and His mercy is ‘Ali (peace be upon him).”

His saying, Exalted is He:

Say: Tell me of what Allah has sent down to you of sustenance, then you make of it unlawful and lawful. Say: Has Allah commanded you, or do you forge a lie against Allah? (Quran 10:59, M. H. Shakir)

/4922 _1- ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim: This concerns what the People of the Book made lawful and unlawful, due to His saying:

And they say: What is in the wombs of these cattle is purely for our males and unlawful to our wives [1]; and His saying: And they set apart for Allah out of what He has created of the tilth and the cattle a portion… [2]. So Allah argued against them, saying: Say: Has Allah commanded you, or do you forge a lie against Allah?

And they say: What is in the wombs of these cattle is purely for our males, and unlawful to our wives. (Quran 6:139, M. H. Shakir)

And they set apart for Allah out of what He has created of the tilth and the cattle a portion. (Quran 6:136, M. H. Shakir)

His saying, Exalted is He:

And you are not (engaged) in any affair, nor do you recite concerning it any portion of the Qur’an — up to His saying — in a clear book. (Quran 10:61, summary of verse opening; full translation below)

And you are not (engaged) in any affair, nor do you recite concerning it any portion of the Qur’an, nor do you do any work but We are witnesses over you when you enter into it; and there does not lie concealed from your Lord the weight of an atom in the earth or in the heaven, nor anything less than that nor greater, but it is in a clear book. (Quran 10:61, M. H. Shakir)

/4923 _1- ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim: It is an address to the Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family): “Nor do you do any work but We are witnesses over you.” He said: When the Messenger of Allah (blessings be upon him and his family) recited this verse, he wept intensely. The meaning of “And you are not in any affair” is: in any deed you do, good or evil. “And there does not lie concealed from your Lord” — nothing is hidden from Him — “the weight of an atom in the earth nor in the heaven, nor anything smaller than that nor greater, but it is in a clear book.”

His saying, Exalted is He:

Now surely the friends of Allah — they shall have no fear nor shall they grieve. Those who believe and guard (against evil): they shall have good news in this world’s life and in the hereafter; there is no changing the words of Allah; that is the mighty achievement. (Quran 10:62-64, M. H. Shakir)

99-/4924 _2- Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub: from a number of our companions, from Sahl ibn Ziyad, from Ibn Faddal, from ‘Ali ibn ‘Uqbah, from his father, who said: Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) said to me: “O ‘Uqbah, Allah will accept from the servants on the Day of Resurrection only this affair which you are upon. And nothing lies between any one of you and his seeing that which will delight his eye except that his soul reaches here.” Then he pointed with his hand to the jugular, then reclined.

Al-Mu‘alla was with me, and he motioned to me to ask him, so I said: “O son of the Messenger of Allah, when his soul reaches here, what does he see?” I asked him this a dozen-odd times: “What is it?” And he said each time: “He sees,” and added nothing to it. Then at the end he sat up and said: “O ‘Uqbah.” I said:
