99-/4873 (Tafsir al-Qummi) – Ali ibn Ibrahim: In the narration of Abu al-Jarud, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), regarding His saying: For those who do good is good and more: “As for ‘the good,’ it is Paradise; and as for ‘the more,’ it is the world. Whatever Allah gives them in it, He will not call them to account for it in the Hereafter, and Allah will combine for them the reward of this world and the Hereafter, and He will recompense them for the best of their deeds, in this world and the Hereafter. Allah says: Neither blackness nor ignominy shall cover their faces; these are the dwellers of the Garden; in it they shall abide.”
99-/4874 (Majma‘ al-Bayan) – Al-Tabrisi, from Abu Ja‘far al-Baqir (peace be upon him): “The ‘more’ is that whatever Allah, the Exalted, has given them [of blessings] in the world, He will not call them to account for it in the Hereafter.”
99-/4875 (Majma‘ al-Bayan) – And from Ali (peace be upon him): “The ‘more’ is a chamber of a single pearl, having four doors.”
99-/4876 (ascribed to Nahj al-Bayan; cf. Tafsir al-Qummi) – It is related in Nahj al-Bayan: from Ali ibn Ibrahim, he said: He said: “The ‘more’ is a gift from Allah, Mighty and Majestic. ‘Neither blackness nor ignominy shall cover their faces’—he said: ‘blackness’ means hunger and poverty, and ‘ignominy’ means fear.”
99-/4877 (al-Kafi) – Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub: from Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr, from Mansur ibn Yunus, from Muhammad ibn Marwan, from Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: “There is nothing but that it has a measure or a weight, except tears; for a single drop extinguishes seas of fire. So when an eye brims with its tears, no blackness or ignominy covers that face, and when the tears flow, Allah forbids that person to the Fire. Even if a weeper were to weep within a nation, Allah would have mercy on that nation.”
99-/4878 (al-Kafi) – And from him: from several of our companions, from Sahl ibn Ziyad, from Ibn Faddal, from Abu Jamilah and Mansur ibn Yunus, from Muhammad ibn Marwan, from Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: “There is no eye but that it will weep on the Day of Resurrection—except an eye that wept from fear of Allah. And no eye brims with its tears from awe of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, but that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, forbids the rest of its body to the Fire; nor do its tears flow upon its cheek but that no blackness or ignominy will cover that face. There is nothing but that it has a measure or a weight, except a teardrop; for Allah, Mighty and Majestic, extinguishes with a small amount of it the seas of fire. If a servant were to weep within a nation, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, would have mercy on that nation due to that servant’s weeping.”
99-/4879 (Tafsir al-‘Ayyashi) – Al-‘Ayyashi: from al-Fudayl ibn Yasar, who said: I heard Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him) say: “The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) said: There is no servant whose eyes brim with their tears but that Allah forbids that body to the Fire; and no eye that sheds tears from fear of Allah but that no blackness or ignominy will cover that face.”
99-/4880 (Tafsir al-‘Ayyashi) – From Muhammad ibn Marwan, from a man, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), who said: “There is nothing but that it has a weight or a recompense, except tears; for a drop extinguishes the seas of fire. When his eyes brim with their tears, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, forbids the rest of his body to the Fire; and if the tears flow upon his cheeks, no blackness or ignominy will cover his face. And if a servant were to weep within a nation, Allah would have mercy on it.”
(Quran 10:27) And (as for) those who have earned evil, the punishment of an evil shall be the like of it, and disgrace shall cover them; they shall have none to protect them from Allah—as if their faces had been covered with pieces of the night, dark; these are the inmates of the fire; in it they shall abide.
99-/4881 (Tafsir al-Qummi) – Ali ibn Ibrahim: And in the narration of Abu al-Jarud, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), regarding His saying, the Exalted: And as for those who have earned evil, the punishment of an evil shall be the like of it, and disgrace shall cover them; they shall have none to protect them from Allah.
