Maryam Ayah 52

Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him) said: The supplication of Abraham (peace be upon him) reaches the sinful believers from among our Shia until the Day of Resurrection.

99-/6891 _4- Muhammad b. Ya‘qub: from several of our companions, from Sahl b. Ziyad, from Ja‘far b. Muhammad al-Ash‘ari, from Ibn al-Qaddah, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: May Allah have mercy on a servant who asks Allah, Mighty and Majestic, for a need and persists in supplication—whether it is granted or not. Then he recited this verse: “And I call upon my Lord; haply I shall not remain unblessed in calling upon my Lord.” (Qur’an 19:48, M. H. Shakir)

99-/6892 _5- ‘Ali b. Ibrahim: His, the Exalted’s, saying: “So when he withdrew from them”—meaning Abraham (peace be upon him)—“and what they worshiped besides Allah, We granted to him Isaac and Jacob, and each of them We made a prophet. And We granted to them of Our mercy”—that is, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—“of Our mercy: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). And We granted them a truthful, high renown”—meaning the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him). ‘Ali b. Ibrahim said: My father narrated this to me from Imam al-Hasan b. ‘Ali al-‘Askari (peace be upon him). (Qur’an 19:49–50, M. H. Shakir: “So when he withdrew from them and what they worshipped besides Allah, We gave to him Ishaq and Ya‘qub, and each one of them We made a prophet. And We granted to them of Our mercy, and We left (behind them) a truthful mention, (the word of) high renown for them.”)

99-/6893 _6- Muhammad b. al-‘Abbas said: Ahmad b. al-Qasim narrated to us, who said: Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Sayyari narrated to us, from Yunus b. ‘Abd al-Rahman, who said: I said to Abu al-Hasan al-Rida (peace be upon him): A group demanded from me [to show] the name “the Commander of the Faithful” (peace be upon him) in the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. So I told them: from His, the Exalted’s, saying: “And We granted them a truthful, high renown.” He said: You have spoken the truth; it is so. (Qur’an 19:50, M. H. Shakir: “And We granted to them of Our mercy, and We left (behind them) a truthful mention, (the word of) high renown for them.”)

99-/6894 _7- Ibn Shahr Ashub: from Abu Basir, from al-Sadiq (peace be upon him), in a report: Abraham (peace be upon him) had supplicated Allah to appoint for him a truthful mention among later generations; so Allah, the Exalted, said: “We granted to him Isaac and Jacob, and each one We made a prophet. And We granted to them of Our mercy, and We granted them a truthful, high renown,” meaning ‘Ali b. Abi Talib (peace be upon him).

His, the Exalted’s, saying: “And We called to him from the right side of the mountain, and We made him draw nigh, holding communion (with Us).” (Qur’an 19:52, M. H. Shakir)

99-/6895 _1- ‘Ali b. Ibrahim said: My father narrated to me, from al-Qasim b. Muhammad, from Sulayman b. Dawud al-Minqari, from Hafs b. Ghiyath, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: Iblis (may Allah curse him) came to Moses (peace be upon him) while he was confiding in his Lord. An angel said to him: Woe to you! What do you hope to gain from him while he is in this state, confiding in his Lord? He replied: I hope from him what I hoped from his father Adam while he was in the Garden.

And among what Moses (peace be upon him) confided to Allah was: O Moses, I do not accept the prayer except from one who humbles himself before My greatness, binds his heart to My fear, spends his day in My remembrance, does not pass the night persisting in sin, and recognizes the right of My friends and beloved ones. Moses (peace be upon him) said: My Lord, do you mean by Your friends and beloved ones Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob? He said: It is so, except that by it I intended the one for whose sake I created Adam and Eve, and for whose sake I created the Garden and the Fire. He said: And who is he, O my Lord? He said: Muhammad, Ahmad—I have derived his name from My Name, for I am al-Mahmud (the Praised), and he is Muhammad (most praised). Moses (peace be upon him) said: My Lord, make me of his community. He said to him: O Moses, you are of his community if you recognize him, and you recognize his rank and the rank of his Household. Indeed, his likeness and the likeness of his Household among those I created is like the Garden of Paradise among the gardens: its leaves do not fall, and its taste does not change. Whoever knows them and knows their right, I appoint for him, in times of ignorance, knowledge, and in darkness, light. I answer him before he calls upon Me, and I give him before he asks Me. O Moses, when you see poverty approaching, say: Welcome to the emblem of the righteous. And when you see wealth approaching, say: A sin whose punishment has been hastened. O Moses, the world is an abode of retribution. In it I punished Adam at his slip, and I made it accursed along with whoever is in it—except what is for Me in it. O Moses, My righteous servants have shown renunciation toward it to the extent of their knowledge of it, while the rest of My creation have desired it to the extent of their ignorance of it. None of My creation magnifies it but that his eye finds no rest in it; and none regards it as small but that he benefits from it. Then Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) said: If you can manage not to be known, then do so. What is it to you if people do not praise you? And what is it to you to be blamed by people while you are praiseworthy with Allah? The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) used to say: There is no good in this world except for one of two men: a man who increases in doing good every day, and a man who catches up with his appointed time by repenting. But how can he attain repentance? By Allah, even if he were to prostrate until his neck breaks, Allah would not accept from him except through our wilayah, we, the People of the House. Behold, whoever recognizes our right and hopes for reward through us is content with his daily provision being half a mudd, and with what covers his nakedness and shields his head; and even so, they remain fearful and anxious.

He said: He promised a man, then sat for him for a whole year waiting for him.
