99-/1463 - From Muhammad al-Wabishi, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: When a believing servant does good, Allah multiplies his deed: for every good act, seven hundredfold. And that is the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted: “And Allah multiplies for whom He wills.”

99-/1464 - From al-Mufaddal ibn Muhammad al-Ju‘fi: I asked Abu ‘Abdillah about the saying of Allah: “Like the likeness of a grain that grows seven ears.” He said: The grain is Fatimah (peace be upon her), and the seven ears are seven from her offspring, the seventh of them is their Qa’im. I said: Al-Hasan (peace be upon him)? He said: Al-Hasan is an Imam from Allah whose obedience is obligatory, but he is not among the seven ears; the first of them is al-Husayn (peace be upon him) and the last of them is the Qa’im. I said: His saying, “in every ear a hundred grains”? He said: A man among them will beget in Kufa a hundred from his own loins, and that is only for these seven.

The Noble Quran (M. H. Shakir):
2:262 Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah, then do not follow up what they have spent with reproach or injury, for them their reward is with their Lord, and they shall have no fear nor shall they grieve.
2:263 Kind speech and forgiveness is better than charity followed by injury; and Allah is Self-sufficient, Forbearing.
2:264 O you who believe! do not make your charity worthless by reproach and injury, like him who spends his wealth to be seen of men and does not believe in Allah and the last day; so his parable is as the parable of a smooth rock with (a little) earth upon it, then a heavy rain falls upon it, so it leaves it bare; they shall not be able to gain anything of what they have earned; and Allah does not guide the unbelieving people.
2:265 And the parable of those who spend their wealth seeking the pleasure of Allah and for the strengthening of their souls is as the parable of a garden on an elevated ground, upon which a heavy rain falls so it brings forth its fruit twofold; but if a heavy rain does not fall upon it, a drizzle (is sufficient); and Allah sees what you do.
2:266 Does one of you like that he should have a garden of palms and vines with streams flowing beneath it; he has in it all kinds of fruits, and old age has overtaken him and he has weak offspring, when (lo!) a whirlwind with fire in it smites it so it becomes blasted; thus does Allah make the communications clear to you, that you may ponder.

99-/1467 - …a kindness, then harms him with words or lays him under obligation, Allah nullifies his charity. Then He set forth a parable about that, saying: “Like him who spends his wealth to be seen of men and does not believe in Allah and the last day; so his parable is as the parable of a smooth rock with (a little) earth upon it, then a heavy rain falls upon it so it leaves it bare; they shall not be able to gain anything of what they have earned; and Allah does not guide the unbelieving people.” And he said: Whoever frequently reminds (of his favor) and hurts the one to whom he gives charity, his charity is nullified, just as the dust upon the smooth rock is rendered void. And “al-ṣafwān” is the large rock in the open plain; the rain comes and washes the dust off it and carries it away. Allah set forth this parable for the one who does a kindness and then follows it with reproach and injury.

99-/1468 - And from him: Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Nothing is more beloved to me than a man to whom I have extended a favor, and I follow it up with its sister and do even better by him; for I have seen that withholding later favors cuts off the tongue of gratitude for earlier ones. Then he set forth the parable of the believers who spend their wealth seeking Allah’s pleasure and as a firm resolve within themselves against reproach and injury. He said: “And the parable of those who spend their wealth seeking the pleasure of Allah and for the strengthening of their souls is as the parable of a garden on an elevated ground; a heavy rain falls upon it and it yields its fruit twofold; and if a heavy rain does not fall upon it, a drizzle suffices; and Allah sees what you do.” He said: Their likeness is like a garden—that is, an orchard—in an elevated place; a “wābil” is rain; it produces its fruit doubled, meaning its yield multiplies as the reward of whoever spends his wealth seeking Allah’s pleasure multiplies. And “al-ṭall” is what falls at night upon trees and plants.
99-/1469 - And from him: Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) said: “And Allah multiplies for whom He wills”—for the one who spends his wealth seeking Allah’s pleasure. He said: So whoever spends his wealth seeking Allah’s pleasure, then reminds the one upon whom he gave charity, is as Allah said: “Does one of you like that he should have a garden of palms and vines with streams flowing beneath it; he has in it all kinds of fruits, and old age has overtaken him and he has weak offspring; then a whirlwind with fire in it strikes it, and it is burned?” He said: The “i‘sār” is the winds. So whoever reminds the one to whom he gave charity is like a man who has a garden full of fruits while he is a weak old man and has weak children; then a wind or fire comes and burns up all his wealth.
