Yunus Ayah 24

قالَ اللَّهُ: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّمَا بَغْيُكُمْ عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِكُمْ

Qur’an 10:23 — M. H. Shakir: O people! surely your inordinate insolence is against your own souls; the provision of this world's life is only a temporary enjoyment, then to Us is your return, then We will inform you of what you did.

Qur’an 10:24 — M. H. Shakir: The likeness of this world's life is only as water which We send down from the cloud, then the herbage of the earth of which men and cattle eat grows luxuriantly thereby, until when the earth puts on its golden raiment and it becomes garnished, and its people think that they have power over it, Our command comes to it by night or by day, so We render it as reaped seed-produce, as though it had not been in existence yesterday; thus do We make clear the communications for a people who reflect.

English: Ali ibn Ibrahim said: My father narrated to me, from Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl, from his father, from Abu Ja’far (peace be upon him). He said: I said to him, “May I be ransomed for you, it has reached us that the family of Ja’far has a banner, and the family of al-‘Abbas has two banners. Has any knowledge of that reached you?” He said: “As for the family of Ja’far, it is nothing and to nothing. As for the family of al-‘Abbas, they will have a slow-delayed dominion; in it they will draw the distant near and push the near far, and their rule is hardship with no ease in it. When they feel secure from Allah’s devising and feel secure from His punishment, a cry will be raised among them such that they will have no resource to gather them and no men to defend them. That is the saying of Allah: ‘until when the earth has taken on its adornment…’ (to the end of the verse).” I said, “May I be ransomed for you, when will that be?” He said: “It has not been fixed for us with a time. But if we tell you something and it occurs as we say, then say: ‘Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth’; and if it is otherwise, then say: ‘Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth,’ and you will be rewarded twice. However, when need and destitution intensify, and people begin to deny one another, then at that time expect this matter morning and evening.” I said, “May I be ransomed for you, we know need and destitution; but what is people denying one another?” He said: “A man will come to his brother for a need, and he will meet him not with the face with which he used to meet him, and he will speak to him not with the speech with which he used to speak to him.”

English: Al-‘Ayyashi, from al-Fadl ibn Yasar, who said: I said to Abu Ja’far (peace be upon him), “May I be ransomed for you, we discuss that the family of Ja’far has a banner and the family of so-and-so has a banner; is there anything in that?” He said: “As for the family of Ja’far, no. As for the banner of the sons of so-and-so, they will have a slow-delayed dominion; in it they will bring the distant near and push the near far, and their authority is hardship with no ease. They will not recognize any signs of good in their rule. Terrors will befall them, then more terrors, and each of those will pass from them, until when they feel secure from Allah’s devising and secure from His punishment, and they think they have settled, a cry will be raised among them such that they will have no herald to hear them nor to gather them. That is the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: ‘until when the earth has taken on its adornment … to His saying: for a people who reflect.’ Truly, none of the wrongdoers but will have some remnant—except the family of so-and-so, for they will have no remnant.” He said: “May I be ransomed for you, will they not have a remnant?” He said: “Yes, but they will shed blood from us; so by their wrongdoing against us and our Shi‘a, they will have no remnant.”

English: Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub: from Muhammad ibn Yahya, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa; and ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, both from al-Hasan ibn Mahbub, from ‘Abdullah ibn Ghalib al-Asadi, from his father, from Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyab, who said: ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn (peace be upon them) used to exhort people, make them renounce the world, and encourage them toward the deeds of the Hereafter with these words every Friday in the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). It was preserved from him and written down. He used to say: “O people … So be mindful of Allah, servants of Allah, and know that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, did not love the bloom of this world and its immediacy for any of His friends, nor did He entice them to it, to its immediate blossom and its outward splendor. He only created the world and created its people to test them therein as to which of them is best in deeds for his Hereafter. By Allah, He has indeed set forth for you parables in it and turned about the signs for a people who use reason; there is no power except with Allah. So renounce what Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has made you renounce of the immediate life of this world; for Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says—and His word is truth: ‘The likeness of this world’s life is only as water … thus do We make clear the communications for a people who reflect.’ So be, servants of Allah, among the people who reflect. Do not incline to the world, for Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said to Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family): ‘And do not incline to those who act unjustly, lest the fire touch you.’ And do not incline to the bloom of the world and what is in it like the inclination of one who takes it as an abode of permanence and a settled dwelling; for it is a place of provision sufficient for the journey, a lodging of departure, and a place of work. So take provisions of righteous deeds in it before its days disperse and before the permission from Allah for its ruin; for it is as if the One who first built it and originated it has already laid it waste, and He is the guardian of its inheritance. I ask Allah to aid us and you in taking the provisions of Godwariness and renunciation therein. May Allah make us and you among those who renounce the immediate bloom of the life of this world and desire, for the sake of the reward of the Hereafter. Verily we are for Him and by Him. May Allah bless Muhammad the Prophet and his family, and peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you.”’

The verse cited in the sermon:

وَلَا تَرْكَنُوا إِلَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا فَتَمَسَّكُمُ النَّارُ

Qur’an 11:113 — M. H. Shakir: And do not incline to those who do wrong, lest the fire touch you, and you have no guardians besides Allah, then you shall not be helped.

قوله تعالى:

وَاللَّهُ يَدْعُو إِلَىٰ دَارِ السَّلَامِ وَيَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ

Qur’an 10:25 — M. H. Shakir: And Allah invites to the abode of peace and guides whom He pleases into the right path.
