The Kaʿbah and Karbala Are Never Without Circumambulators

The Kaʿbah and Karbala Are Never Without Circumambulators

Forty-eighth: The Kaʿbah is never without those who circumambulate it, neither by night nor by day.

Likewise, al-Imam Husain (a.s.), from the day of his martyrdom until now, has never been without visitors, whether they be human beings, angels, wild animals, or jinn—whether from the people of this world or from other realms—as has been narrated in the traditions. [1232]

Forty-ninth: Allah has tested the people of the world through the Blessed House, as Amir al-Muʾminin (a.s.) said in one of his sermons:

He placed it in the midst of rocky, constricted, barren lands, surrounded by rugged mountains, loose sands, scarce waters, and villages far apart from one another, in order to test His servants. [1233]

As for the true House—that is, al-Imam Husain (a.s.)—he became the touchstone of trial for all the worlds when he cried for help at a time when he was in the narrowest of circumstances, surrounded by enemies, drawn swords, raised spears, flying arrows, and stones.

Around him were trembling limbs, pale faces, sunken eyes, cries, wails, and blood-soaked martyrs. [1234]

Thus he tested all people and called upon them to aid him and to answer his call, in the manner whose details have already been mentioned in the chapter on visitation.

Fiftieth: Allah has described the one who abandons Hajj despite possessing the means as a disbeliever, by way of emphasizing the greatness of his punishment. [1235]

And concerning the one who abandons the visitation of al-Imam Husain (a.s.) despite having the ability to perform it, expressions have been used such as:

“He is not a believer,”

or,

“He is deficient in faith,”

or,

“He is not a Shiʿah and is disobedient toward the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.),”

even though the visitation of that noble Imam (a.s.) is among the recommended acts (mustahabbaat), while Hajj is among the obligatory acts (waajibaat). [1236]
