An-Nahl Ayah 65-67

English translation:

He said: So I proceeded and poured out the ablution water for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) in the house. I informed him, so he came out and performed ablution, then returned to the house to his seat. Then he raised his head toward me and said: “O Anas, the first to enter upon us will be the Commander of the Faithful, the Master of the Muslims, and the Leader of the radiant ones.” Anas said: I said to myself: O Allah, make him a man from my people. He said: Then, behold, the door of the house was knocked. I went out and opened it, and it was Ali son of Abi Talib (peace be upon him). He entered and walked in, and I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), when he saw him, spring to his feet rejoicing. He remained standing while Ali (peace be upon him) walked until he entered upon him in the house, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) embraced him. I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) wipe his face with his palm and then wipe Ali’s (peace be upon him) face with it, and wipe Ali’s (peace be upon him) face with his palm and then wipe his own face with it, meaning: his own face. Ali (peace be upon him) said to him: “O Messenger of Allah, I have seen you do today something you have never done with me before.” He said: “And what would prevent me, when you are my legatee and my successor, the one who will clarify for them what they differ about after me, who conveys on my behalf, and makes them hear my prophethood?”

English translation (99-/6068 _2-):

And via the route of the Sunnis: The Imam, the Hafiz Abu Nu‘aym Ahmad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Ahmad narrated with his chain in his Hilya: from Anas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: “O Anas, pour out water for my ablution.” Then he stood and prayed two rak‘as, then said: “O Anas, the first to enter upon you from this door will be the Commander of the Faithful, the Master of the Muslims, the Leader of the radiant ones, and the Seal of the legatees.” Anas said: I said: O Allah, make him a man from the Ansar, and I concealed it, when Ali (peace be upon him) came. He said: “Who is this, O Anas?” I said: Ali. He arose rejoicing and embraced him. Then he began to wipe the sweat of his face with his (own) face, and to wipe the sweat of Ali (peace be upon him) with his (own) face. Ali (peace be upon him) said: “O Messenger of Allah, I have seen you do something you had not done with me before.” He said: “And what would prevent me, when you convey on my behalf, make them hear my voice [1], and clarify for them what they differed about after me.”

English translation:

This hadith has also been narrated by the Sunni scholar Muwaffaq ibn Ahmad in the book Fada’il Amir al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him), from Anas, in the same form as in the Hilya, without alteration [2].

English translation (Qur’an 16:65-67, M. H. Shakir):

And Allah has sent down water from the cloud and therewith given life to the earth after its death; most surely there is a sign in this for a people who would hear. And most surely there is a lesson for you in the cattle; We give you to drink of what is in their bellies—from betwixt the feces and the blood—pure milk, easy and agreeable to swallow for those who drink. And of the fruits of the palms and the grapes—you obtain from them intoxication and goodly provision; most surely there is a sign in this for a people who ponder.

English translation (/6069 _1-):

‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, regarding His saying: “And Allah has sent down water from the sky”: the verse is definitive. Then he said, regarding His saying: “And most surely there is a lesson for you in the cattle; We give you to drink of what is in their bellies—from betwixt the feces and the blood—pure milk, easy and agreeable to swallow for those who drink”: al-farth is what is in the belly (the rumen).

English translation (99-/6070 _2-):

Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub: from ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from al-Nawfali, from al-Sakuni, who said: Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon him) [1] said: “No one chokes when drinking milk, because Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says: ‘Pure milk, easy and agreeable to swallow for those who drink.’”

English translation (99-/6072 _4-):

Al-‘Ayyashi: from Sa‘id ibn Yasar, from Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon him), who said: “Allah commanded Noah (peace be upon him) to carry in the Ark of every kind a pair of two. So he carried the male palm [2] and the ‘Ajwa date [3], and they were a pair. When the water receded, Allah commanded Noah to plant the habalah, which is the vine. Iblis came to him and prevented him from planting it, but Noah (peace be upon him) insisted on planting it, and Iblis refused to let him plant it, saying: ‘It is not for you or your companions; it is only for me and my companions.’ They disputed as long as Allah willed. Then they settled that Noah (peace be upon him) would give Iblis two-thirds of it, and for Noah (peace be upon him) one-third of it. And Allah revealed for His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) in His Book what you have recited: ‘And of the fruits of the palms and the grapes—you obtain from them intoxication and a goodly provision.’ So the Muslims [used to drink] [4] accordingly; then Allah sent down the verse of prohibition—this verse: ‘Only intoxicants and games of chance and (sacrificing on) stones set up and (dividing by) arrows are an abomination... so will you desist?’ [5] O Sa‘id, this is the verse of prohibition, and it abrogated the other verse.”

English translation (Qur’an 16:68, M. H. Shakir):
