Al-Anbiya Ayah 44

Whoever claims that sins occur without Allah’s power has lied against Allah, and whoever lies against Allah, Allah will admit him into the Fire.

It means by “good” and “evil”: health and illness, and that is His saying, Mighty and Majestic: “And We try you by evil and by good by way of trial.”

[Qur’an 21:35 — M. H. Shakir: Every soul shall taste of death; and We try you by evil and by good by way of trial; and to Us you shall be returned.]

99-/7142 - al-Tabrisi: It is narrated from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him): “The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) fell ill, and his brothers visited him. They said, ‘How do you find yourself, O Commander of the Faithful?’ He said, ‘In evil.’ They said, ‘Such words are not like you.’ He said, ‘Surely Allah, the Exalted, says: And We try you by evil and by good by way of trial. So good is health and wealth, and evil is illness and poverty.’”

[Qur’an 21:35 — M. H. Shakir: Every soul shall taste of death; and We try you by evil and by good by way of trial; and to Us you shall be returned.]

His saying, exalted is He:

Man is created of haste; I will show to you My signs; therefore do not ask Me to hasten them.

[Qur’an 21:37 — M. H. Shakir]

7143 - 1- ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim said: When Allah, Mighty and Majestic, ran Adam’s spirit through him from his feet until it reached his knees, he wanted to stand but he could not, so the Mighty and Majestic said: “Man is created of haste.”

99-/7144 - 2- al-Tabrisi: It is Adam—he intended to leap up. He said that from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him).

And the hadith of Hisham from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) on this meaning has preceded under His saying: “And man is ever hasty.” [1]

[Qur’an 17:11 — M. H. Shakir: And man prays for evil as he ought to pray for good, and man is ever hasty.]

His saying, exalted is He:

Do they not see that We are visiting the land, curtailing it of its sides?

[Qur’an 21:44 — M. H. Shakir: Nay! We gave provision to these and their fathers until the life was prolonged to them. Do they not then see that We are visiting the land, curtailing it of its sides? Can they then prevail?]

The narrations on the meaning of this verse have preceded in Surat al-Ra‘d. [2]

His saying, exalted is He:

And if a blast of the chastisement of your Lord were to touch them, they would certainly say: O woe to us! surely we were unjust.

[Qur’an 21:46 — M. H. Shakir]
