The Prophet While in his Last Moments Held Imam Husain (a.s.) to His Chest
The Prophet While in his Last Moments Held Imam Husain (a.s.) to His Chest
Likewise, throughout all the days of his life, whether by night or day, during travel or residence, the condition of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) remained like this.
Even during his final illness, he held Imam Husain (a.s.) close to his chest while the sweat of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) flowed upon him. He would say:
“What have I to do with Yazīd? May Allah not bless Yazīd and may He curse him.”
Then he would lose consciousness.
When he regained consciousness, he would kiss Imam Husain (a.s.), tears flowing from his eyes, and say:
“I shall have a standing before Allah concerning your killers.” [640]
All of these gatherings took place in Madinah.
The fifth gathering was that of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) in Karbalāʾ.
He said:
“On the night of Miʿrāj, when I reached Karbalāʾ, the place where Imam Husain (a.s.) and his companions would be martyred was shown to me.” [641]
The sixth gathering was that of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) at a place where Madinah and Karbalāʾ were brought together before him.
This occurred when the lands were folded for him and he saw the place of the martyrdom of Imam Husain (a.s.). He took some of its soil. It appears that this was the same soil that he later gave to Umm Salamah and said:
“Keep this soil. Whenever it turns into blood, know that my son Imam Husain (a.s.) has been killed.” [642]
Later, Imām Imam Husain (a.s.) himself gave soil to Umm Salamah in the same manner, as will be mentioned, if Allah wills. [643]
The seventh gathering was that of Amīr al-Muʾminīn ʿAlī (a.s.) in Madinah, Kūfah, and other places.
He would recite elegies for Imam Husain (a.s.) from the pulpit and in the mosque on many occasions. He would weep and describe the future events of Karbalāʾ in both poetry and prose.
Among these occasions was the time when he lay in the miḥrāb after having been struck on the head.
He said:
“O Abā ʿAbdillāh, you shall be the martyr of this nation.” [644]
In this gathering, Amīr al-Muʾminīn (a.s.) was the reciter of the elegy, while Imam Husain (a.s.) and the people of Kūfah were the listeners.
There were several other gatherings for him after this in which he was the reciter and his daughter Zaynab (a.s.) was the listener.
One of these occurred when he was lying upon his deathbed. He informed Zaynab (a.s.):
“It is as though I see you and the women of the Ahl al-Bayt as captives in this city, fearful that people may seize you as slaves.” [645]
