Title Eleven : Concerning the Special Characteristics of That Noble One (a.s.) in Relation to the Great Prophets

Objective One: Concerning those qualities of the Prophets which were bestowed upon that Noble One (a.s.).

Thus we say:

Allah, the Exalted, distinguished the Prophets with twelve qualities, and all of them were present in al-Imam Husain (a.s.) in the most perfect manner.

Among the qualities of the Prophets is that Allah, the Exalted, tested the creation through them by making the Prophets weak and poor, and by not granting them worldly status and adornments.

All of those conditions and trials were present in that Noble One (a.s.) on the Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ in such a manner that the reality of sincerity (Ikhlaas) became manifest through him, and it was entirely for Allah, with no trace of anything other than Him.

For this reason, his companions and followers were called the chiefs of the martyrs (saadaat al-Shohdaa), the friends of Allah (awliyaa Allah), the chosen ones (asfeyaa), and the beloved servants of Allah. [1317]

Among the qualities of the Prophets is that there was not a single one of them who was not afflicted by poverty, hunger, thirst, nakedness, beating, killing, harm, or humiliation.

Some of them died from hunger, and some from thirst.

Yet all of these afflictions were never gathered together in any one of them, although many of them were combined in some.

Al-Imam Husain (a.s.) was uniquely distinguished by the gathering of all these afflictions within himself, in such a manner that no aspect of safety or well-being remained for him whatsoever. [1318]

Among the qualities of the Prophets is that the fragrance of quince (beh) would be perceived from their bodies, as has been mentioned in the traditions. [1319]

From al-Imam Husain (a.s.), however, the fragrance of an apple would be perceived, according to the narration mentioned previously.

And even until now, that fragrance is perceived from his noble grave, as the sincere ones among the Shiʿah find it, especially during the pre-dawn hours (sahr), as has been reported in the tradition. [1320]
