Jesus (peace be upon him) was given nine parts of fortune, and for the rest of the people one portion.
99- _2- (Majma‘ al-Bayān 2:752): From Abū ‘Alī al-Jubbā’ī, regarding His saying: wa yu‘allimuhul-kitāb (and He will teach him the Book), it is said: He intended by it some of the scriptures that Allah, the Exalted, sent down to His prophets other than the Torah and the Gospel, such as the Zabūr and others.
99- _3- (Majma‘ al-Bayān 2:752): And from him, from the Prophet (Allah bless him and his Family), regarding His saying: wa yu‘allimuhul-kitāba wal-ḥikmah (and He will teach him the Book and the Wisdom). He (Allah bless him and his Family) said: “I have been given the Qur’an and its like along with it.” They said: He intended by it the Sunnahs; and it is said: He intended by it all that He taught him of the fundamentals of the religion.
Quran 3:53 (M. H. Shakir): Our Lord, we believe in what Thou hast revealed and we follow the messenger, so write us down with those who bear witness.
99- _4- (al-Manāqib 4:283): From Imām al-Kāẓim (peace be upon him), regarding His, the Exalted, saying: fāktubnā ma‘a ash-shāhidīn (So write us down with those who bear witness). He said: “We are they; we bear witness for the messengers against their communities.”
Quran 3:73-74 (M. H. Shakir): Say: Surely the true guidance is the guidance of Allah—that one may be given the like of what you were given; or they would contend with you by argument before your Lord. Say: Surely grace is in the hand of Allah, He gives it to whom He pleases; and Allah is Ample-giving, Knowing. He specially chooses for His mercy whom He pleases; and Allah is the Lord of mighty grace.
99- _5- (Bishārat al-Muṣṭafā: 30): From Sa‘īd b. Zayd b. Arṭāh, from Kumayl b. Ziyād, from the Commander of the Faithful ‘Alī (peace be upon him)—in a ḥadīth—he said: “O Kumayl, the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and his Family) said a statement to me while the Emigrants and the Helpers were gathered one day after ‘Aṣr, on the middle day of the month of Ramaḍān, standing on his two feet upon his pulpit: ‘Alī and my two sons—from him—are the pure ones from me, and I am from them; and they are the pure ones after their mother. They are a ship: whoever boards it is saved, and whoever lags behind from it falls; the saved one is in Paradise, and the one who falls is in the blaze.’ O Kumayl: al-faḍlu biyadillāhi yu’tīhi man yashā’ (Grace is in the hand of Allah; He gives it to whom He pleases), wallāhu dhūl-faḍlil-‘aẓīm (and Allah is the Lord of mighty grace) [Quran 3:73-74]. O Kumayl, why do they envy us, when Allah brought us into being before they knew us? Do you think, by their envying us, that they can remove us from our Lord?!”

Quran 3:105 (M. H. Shakir): And be not like those who became divided and disagreed after clear arguments had come to them, and these it is that shall have a grievous chastisement.

99- _1- (al-Iḥtijāj: 114): By al-Ṭabrisī, from Muḥammad and Yaḥyā, the sons of ‘Abd Allāh b. al-Ḥusayn, from their father, from their grandfather, from ‘Alī b. Abī Ṭālib (peace be upon him)—in a ḥadīth—he said: “When Abū Bakr gave a sermon, Ubayy b. Ka‘b stood up to him. It was Friday, the first day of the month of Ramaḍān, and he said: ‘By Allah, you have not been neglected; indeed a standard has been set up for you—he makes the lawful lawful for you and makes the unlawful unlawful for you. Had you obeyed him, you would not have differed, nor turned your backs on each other, nor fought, nor would some of you disavow others. By Allah, after him you will surely be violating the covenant of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and his Family), and you will surely differ concerning his progeny. And if this one is asked about what he does not know, he will issue a legal opinion by his own opinion. You have gone far astray and fallen silent, and you have claimed that disagreement is a mercy—far be it! The Book refuses that for you. Allah—exalted is His majesty—says: wa lā takūnū ka-lladhīna tafarraqū wakhtalafū min ba‘di mā jā’ahumul-bayyinātu wa ulā’ika lahum ‘adhābun ‘aẓīm (And be not like those who became divided and disagreed after clear arguments had come to them, and these it is that shall have a grievous chastisement) [Quran 3:105, M. H. Shakir]. Then He informed us of your differing, and He, Glorified, said: wa lā yazālūna mukhtalifīn illā man raḥima rabbuk wa li-dhālika khalaqahum (And they shall continue to differ, except those on whom your Lord has mercy; and for this did He create them) [Quran 11:118-119, M. H. Shakir], meaning: for mercy—and they are the House of Muḥammad (Allah bless him and his Family). I heard the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and his Family) say: O ‘Alī, you and your Shī‘ah are upon the fiṭrah, and the people are dissociated from it. Why then did you not accept from your Prophet—how is it when he informed you that you would turn back from his legatee, ‘Alī b. Abī Ṭālib—his trusted one, his minister, his brother, and his guardian over you all; the purest of you in heart, the earliest of you in peace, the greatest of you in awareness from the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and his Family)? He gave him his heritage, enjoined him with his promises, appointed him as successor over his community, and placed with him his secret; thus he is his guardian over you all, and more entitled to him than all of you, the master of the legatees and the legatee of the Seal of the Messengers, the most excellent of the Godwary, and the most obedient of the community to the Lord of the worlds. You gave him the salutation of ‘Commander of the Faithful’ during the life of the master of the prophets and the Seal of the Messengers. He has indeed excused who warned, and he has fulfilled sincere counsel who admonished, and he has seen after blindness. You have heard as we have heard, and you have seen as we have seen, and you have witnessed as we have witnessed.’”
