Ismāʿīl (a.s.) Was the Sacrifice of Allah, and Imam Husain (a.s.) Also Was the Sacrifice of Allah

Ismāʿīl (a.s.) Was the Sacrifice of Allah, and Imam Husain (a.s.) Also Was the Sacrifice of Allah

Chapter of Ismāʿīl (a.s.):

Ismāʿīl (a.s.) submitted himself so that his father might sacrifice him in the way of Allah with gentleness and kindness in the act of slaughtering.

Therefore Allah described him as forbearing (Haleem).

And Imam Husain (a.s.) was likewise forbearing, for he submitted himself so that his enemies might kill him—a killing the like of which has never occurred and never shall occur.

And if you consider all the aspects and details of the calamity of that noble one (a.s.), you will know that nothing comparable to it has occurred and never will occur.

Chapter of Ismāʿīl al-Ṣādiq al-Waʿd (a.s.)

The Ismāʿīl (a.s.) mentioned in the Qur'an [1436] is not Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm (a.s.).

Allah sent him as a messenger to a people, but they seized him and flayed the skin from his face.

Then Allah sent to him Sāṭāṭīl, the angel of punishment, so that he might take vengeance for him upon that people.

Ismāʿīl (a.s.) said:

“I take as my example Imam Husain (a.s.).”

[1437]

However, his emulation of Imam Husain (a.s.) was only in the matter of the skin being stripped from his face.

May I be sacrificed for that stranger, from whose body all the skin was stripped away by the wounds of arrows, swords, and spears.

And whose limbs were also torn apart, as he himself said in his sermon:

“It is as though I can see my limbs being torn to pieces by the wolves of the deserts.” [1438]
