Yunus Ayah 96-97

(Qur’an 10:96-97) Surely those against whom the word of your Lord has proved true will not believe, Though every sign should come to them, until they witness the painful chastisement. (M. H. Shakir)

/4975 _1- ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhīm said: Those who denied the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him). And regarding His saying: “the word of your Lord has proved true against them; they will not believe,” he said: The walāyah was presented to them, and God had made faith in it obligatory upon them, but they did not believe in it.

(Qur’an 10:98) Why was there not a town which believed so that its belief should have profited it except the people of Yunus? When they believed We removed from them the chastisement of disgrace in this world's life and We gave them provision till a time. (M. H. Shakir)

99-/4976 _2- Muhammad ibn Ya‘qūb, from Muhammad ibn Yahyā, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from Ibn Mahbūb, from ‘Abd Allāh ibn Sinān, from Ma‘rūf ibn Kharrabūdh, from Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him). He said: Indeed God, Mighty and Majestic, has winds of mercy and winds of punishment. If God wills to make the punishment from the winds into mercy, He does so—he said—but He will never make the mercy from the wind into punishment—he said—and that is because He has never had mercy upon a people who obeyed Him and their obedience to Him became a misfortune for them, except after they had turned away from obeying Him [1]. He said: And thus He did with the people of Yūnus: when they believed, God had mercy on them after He had decreed and determined punishment against them. Then He overtook them with His mercy, so He made the punishment decreed for them into mercy, turning it away from them—though He had sent it down upon them and it had enveloped them—because they believed in Him and supplicated to Him.

99-/4977 _3- Ibn Bābawayh said: ‘Alī ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad (may God be pleased with him) narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Abī ‘Abd Allāh al-Kūfī narrated to us, from Mūsā ibn ‘Imrān al-Nakha‘ī, from his uncle al-Husayn ibn Yazīd al-Nawfalī, from ‘Alī ibn Sālim, from his father, from Abū Basīr, who said: I said to Abū ‘Abd Allāh (peace be upon him): For what reason did God, Mighty and Majestic, turn away the punishment from the people of Yūnus after it had overshadowed them, while He did not do…
