99-/— When he named al-Hasan and al-Husayn, [Adam supplicated:] “since You have forgiven me,” and so Allah forgave him. This is what Allah, the Exalted, said: “Then Adam received from his Lord words.” The words that Adam received from his Lord were: “O Allah, by the right of Muhammad, ‘Ali, Fatimah, al-Hasan, and al-Husayn, forgive me,” so Allah turned toward him in mercy.

99-/431 _16- And from the judge Abu ‘Amr ‘Uthman b. Ahmad, one of the shaykhs of the Sunnah, who raises it to Ibn ‘Abbas, from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family): “When the sin encompassed Adam, he looked at forms that shone around the Throne. He said: ‘My Lord, I see lights of forms resembling my own creation. What are they?’ He said: ‘These lights are the forms of two of your descendants. The name of one of them is Muhammad: I begin prophethood with you and conclude it with him. The other is his brother and the son of his father’s brother; his name is ‘Ali. I strengthen Muhammad through him and grant him victory at his hand. And the lights around them are the lights of the progeny of this Prophet from this brother of his. He will marry him his daughter; she will be a spouse to him, and through her will be joined those who are foremost of creation in faith in him and in affirming him. I shall make her the mistress of women, and I shall wean her and her progeny from the Fires. On the Day of Resurrection, all ties and lineages will be severed except his tie and his lineage.’ Then Adam prostrated in thanks to Allah for placing that in his progeny, and Allah recompensed him for that prostration by commanding His angels to prostrate to him.”

99-/432 _17- And from al-Sadiq (peace be upon him), regarding His saying, the Exalted: “Then Adam received from his Lord words”: “The words that Adam received from his Lord were: ‘O Allah, by the right of Muhammad, ‘Ali, Fatimah, al-Hasan, and al-Husayn, turn to me in mercy,’ so Allah turned toward him in mercy.”

99-/433 _18- Al-‘Ayyashi: from Jabir, who said: I asked Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him) about the inner interpretation of this verse in the Qur’an: “So surely there will come to you guidance from Me; then whoever follows My guidance, no fear shall be on them, nor shall they grieve.” He said: “The interpretation of ‘guidance’ is ‘Ali (peace be upon him). Allah said about him: ‘Then whoever follows My guidance, no fear shall be on them, nor shall they grieve.’”

(Qur’an 2:39) And as for those who disbelieve and reject Our communications, they are the inmates of the fire; in it they shall abide. [M. H. Shakir]

99-/434 _1- Imam Abu Muhammad al-‘Askari (peace be upon him) said: “Allah, the Exalted, said: ‘And those who disbelieve and deny Our signs which indicate the truthfulness of Muhammad regarding what he brought of the reports of the past generations, and regarding what he conveyed to the servants of Allah of His mention of His preference for ‘Ali and his pure family—the best of the virtuous men and women after Muhammad, the master of created beings—those who repel the truthfulness of Muhammad in his announcements, and who belie him in his appointment of his friends—‘Ali, the master of the executors, and the chosen ones from his pure progeny—are the companions of the Fire; they in it shall they abide forever.’”

(Qur’an 2:40) O children of Israel, call to mind My favor which I bestowed on you, and be faithful to your covenant with Me, I will fulfill My covenant with you, and of Me, Me alone, should you be afraid. [M. H. Shakir]

99-/435 _1- Imam Abu Muhammad al-‘Askari (peace be upon him) said: “Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: ‘O Children of Israel, remember My blessing which I bestowed upon you’—when I sent Muhammad and settled him in your city, and I did not burden you with traveling to him; and I made clear his signs and proofs of his truthfulness so that his state would not be confused for you. ‘And fulfill My covenant’—which your prophets took upon your forefathers and were commanded to convey to their successors—that they most certainly believe in Muhammad, the Arab, the Qurashi, the Hashimi, made manifest by signs and supported by miracles, among which are: a poisoned foreleg spoke to him; a wolf conversed with him; the pulpit-trunk moaned for him; Allah increased for him the small amount of food; hard stones were softened for him; and flowing waters were solidified for him; and there is no prophet among His prophets whom He supported with a sign but that He granted him the like of it or better. And [He is] the One who made among His greatest friends ‘Ali b. Abi Talib (peace be upon him) his counterpart and companion—his intellect from his intellect, his knowledge from his knowledge, his forbearance from his forbearance—supporting his religion with his incisive sword, after having cut off the excuses of the stubborn by his compelling proof, his superior knowledge, and his complete merit. ‘I will fulfill your covenant’—by which I have made obligatory for you the everlasting bliss in the abode of honor and the abode of mercy. ‘And of Me, Me alone, should you be afraid’—with regard to opposing Muhammad (may Allah bless him and his family), for I am able to turn away the affliction of those who oppose you when you agree with Me, while they are those who are unable to avert My retribution from you if you choose to oppose Me.”
