104. The Wrath of the Radiant Moon of Banī Hāshim – Part 2
The people of Iraq—especially the residents of Karbala—have witnessed dozens of incidents reflecting the wrath of Hazrat Abū al-Faḍl(a.s.), particularly upon individuals who swore false oaths in his sacred shrine:
(1) The late Shaykh Ḥasan Baṣīrī narrated from Ḥājj Muḥammad Ibrāhīm Zargarpūr that he said: Upon returning from the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca, I had the honor of visiting the holy shrines. Near the shrine of Hazrat Abū al-Faḍl(a.s.), I became acquainted with a merchant from Tabriz named Ḥājj ʿAbbās.
One morning around dawn, I was in his shop when suddenly a loud noise and commotion arose, and everyone began rushing toward the holy shrine. The shop owner, upon hearing the noise, also ran toward the shrine. I followed behind him. When we entered the courtyard, we saw that the body of a deceased man was being dragged out in a humiliating manner—it had turned completely black. Everyone was expressing joy and happiness, chanting slogans and verses, and showing disgust toward the deceased.
When we inquired about the situation, they said: This man, along with two others, had committed a murder. They were arrested but denied the crime. The case reached the point of taking an oath.
On Thursday morning, all three suspects were brought to the shrine of Hazrat Abū al-Faḍl(a.s.) to swear an oath. One of them, who was more audacious, stepped forward and pointed with his own hand toward the sacred ḍarīḥ (shrine grill), falsely swearing that he had no knowledge of the murder.
At that very moment, he was flung into the air, slammed into the ground, and died instantly.
Upon witnessing this evident miracle, the other two, out of fear for their lives, confessed to their crime.
(2) In the village of Malākandī, a district of Ahar, a property dispute arose between two individuals. The property owner said to the other: “Place your hand over your twelve-year-old son who is present here and swear by his death.”
The man looked at his son and said: “No, I swear by Hazrat Abū al-Faḍl(a.s.).”
The oath was completed, and before sunset that very day, the son passed away.
(3) A similar incident occurred in the village of NaẓarʿAlī in the district of Mākū. There too, before sunset, the child died.

(4) One day, the late Ḥājj Mīr ʿAlī Muḥaddith asked his father-in-law, the late Āyatullāh Ḥājj Mīr Bāqir Mujtahid (1261–1346 AH), one of the great scholars of Khūy:
“During your time of residence in the noble shrines, what miracle did you witness from those great personalities?”
He replied: Two well-known families in Karbalā entered into marriage. After six months, moral disagreements arose, and the girl returned to her father's house. Despite the efforts of friends and mediators, reconciliation was not achieved.
A year later, the girl's parents migrated to Najaf, leaving the daughter alone in Karbalā.
One day, the boy approached the girl and, through promises and persuasion, convinced her. He entered the house and slept with her. Then he left and never returned. The girl became pregnant. When the boy found out, he denied responsibility and accused her of dishonor.
The girl’s family questioned her, and she told the truth. But the groom denied it. The girl’s brothers decided to kill their sister. She said, “If I can get hold of him, I will prove my innocence.”
The families of both the boy and the girl forced the boy to the girl’s house. The girl advised him repeatedly, but he did not listen. She grabbed him by the collar and dragged him toward the sacred shrine of Hazrat Abū al-Faḍl(a.s.).
Along with the families, people from the streets and market followed behind them.
The girl, holding his collar with one hand, grasped the shrine’s ḍarīḥ with the other and cried,
“If you do not want my honor and my family's reputation to be destroyed, then judge between me and this rebellious young man.”
Suddenly, the ḍarīḥ began to shake, and the wicked young man was thrown several meters into the air. He died, turned black, and fell to the ground.
The shrine attendants and the people tied a rope to his feet and paraded his accursed body through the city.
This news spread throughout the cities of Iraq. The governor of Baghdad, appointed by the Ottoman government, reported the incident to Istanbul. After investigation, the Ottoman Empire issued an order for senior army officials to visit Karbalā al-Muʿallā, and group by group, they came to the sacred shrine for pilgrimage.
As they entered the shrine, they recited Turkish verses, one of which was:
بابان حيدر جنّته گوزلری پاک ایشیندی
سنلن تفاخُر ایلَر او آرکا داشلرینه
Meaning: Your father, Ḥaydar Karrār, is radiant in the gardens of Paradise. He takes pride in all his friends, because of you.

(5) The late Mīrbābā’ī, a devout and virtuous man, narrated that in Russia, a dispute arose between two individuals which ended up in court.
The plaintiff said in court, “If the accused takes seven steps toward the qibla and on the seventh step swears by Hazrat Abū al-Faḍl(a.s.), I will withdraw my claim.”
The judge, who was not a Muslim, did not understand the matter. When it was explained to him, he agreed. The accused took seven steps in the judge’s room and prepared to swear an oath. Suddenly, he fell to the ground and died.
The incident was reported to the authorities and published in the press, with the announcement that henceforth, the ‘court of Hazrat ʿAbbās’ would never again be held in their courts.
(6) In the village of Kāniyān, a border dispute broke out among several people, and it was decided that they would swear an oath by Hazrat Abū al-Faḍl(a.s.).
One of them was to take seven steps toward the qibla and take an oath. However, on the fourth step, he collapsed and died, and his face turned black like coal.
Hence, that place became known as “Īt Olan” – meaning “the place of the dog’s death.”
(7) A man named Afshār, the commander of the gendarmerie post of Īvāwghlī (30 kilometers northeast of the city of Khūy), was transferred to Arsbarān. There, he colluded with a deceitful person and falsely filed a debt case against a devout believer for four tumans.
The man was convicted in court and paid the amount. He said to Afshār, “I refer the judgment to Hazrat ʿAbbās.”
Afshār replied, “No problem. Let him do whatever he can.” Then he rode off on a motorcycle. Soon after, he met with an accident, and his leg was broken.
Dr. Āyatullāhī was not in Khūy, and Dr. Shafīʿī also refused to treat him. He suffered in that condition and met his just recompense.

(8) The late Ḥāj Shaykh Ḥasan Faqīh narrated from the pulpit that after the arrival of the Allies in the year 1320 solar (1941 CE) and the departure of Riḍā Khān, in the city of Miyāndowāb, children formed a procession and raised an ‘alam (standard).
A traitorous soldier who supported Riḍā Khān confronted the children and tried to snatch the ‘alam from them. One of the boys firmly held on and said:
"This is the standard of Hazrat Abū al-Faḍl."
The soldier said, "He doesn’t need a flag. I need this cloth to lean on," and forcefully took the ‘alam from the children.
The children cried out: "Yā Abā al-Faḍl! Yā Abā al-Faḍl!"
At that moment, the soldier was struck with a powerful slap, his complexion turned black, and he died.
(9) The noble preacher, the late Ḥāj Mīrzā Maḥmūd Waḥdat, narrated that during the reign of Riḍā Khān, in an alley now named after the late Ḥāj Fakhr (now ʿAbbāsī Street, Tabrīz), a policeman tried to remove a woman’s chador.
The woman strongly resisted and pleaded with him to let her go this time, promising not to come out again. He refused.
At that moment, the late Ḥāj Fakhr Dūzdūzānī came out of his house and approached the woman to help her. Suddenly, he heard the woman swear the officer by Hazrat Abū al-Faḍl(a.s.), and he turned back.
People asked, “Why did you return?” He replied, “She swore by a great one; that is no longer a place for me.”
In the struggle where the officer was pulling the chador and the woman held on with all her strength, the policeman suddenly jolted, his gun fired a bullet that entered under his chin, and he died on the spot.
The woman took her chador and left the scene.
(10) A wealthy but irreligious man in Mamqān, a city in East Azerbaijan, would often falsely swear by Hazrat Abū al-Faḍl(a.s.).
People warned him repeatedly, saying, “You will incur divine wrath.”
He replied, “That great one is so busy that it won’t be my turn for another fifty years. I’ll finish my business in that time.”
He then left the city to tend to his sheep. Along the way, a lightning strike hit him, burning him to ashes.
(11) The late Shaykh Ḥasan Baṣīrī narrated from the late Shaykh Jalīl Manṣarf that in the Caucasus, he saw an acquaintance who was deeply upset.
When asked why, he said:
"Last night a certain communist in the café insulted Hazrat Abū al-Faḍl(a.s.). I became upset and said, ‘If he does not face divine wrath, I too will become a disbeliever.’"
Shaykh Jalīl said, “If he is not punished within forty days, I will leave the religious profession.”
A few days later, he saw that same communist with his head and face completely covered, only his eyes visible.
When asked what happened, it turned out that his mouth and tongue had become twisted, he had lost the ability to speak, and his face was completely deformed.

(12) The late Karbalā’ī ʿAlī-Reżā Yakānī, a devout man from Khoy, traveled with a group to the sacred shrines. While in Karbalā, he lost his money. He told his fellow travelers, "I didn’t take my money out of this place — it must have gotten lost right here."
Everyone denied any knowledge of it. Eventually, as a group, they all swore by Hazrat Abū al-Faḍl(a.s.).
That same day, one of the companions developed stomach pain and died.
When his belongings were being gathered, the missing pouch and money were found among his possessions.
