The Kaʿbah and Karbala Both Spoke

The Kaʿbah and Karbala Both Spoke

Thirty-first: Makkah spoke and boasted of the honors that Allah had granted it.

It said:

“Who is like me,

when the House of Allah has been built upon me, and people come to me from every direction?”

But Karbala possesses superiority over it.

As it is narrated that when Makkah boasted, revelation came to it:

“Remain in your place. The virtue of the House through which you have gained your distinction, compared to the virtue of Karbala, is no more than a needle dipped into the sea; how much water does it take from the sea?

Had it not been for the soil of Karbala, I would not have granted you distinction.

And had it not been for the one who is buried therein, I would not have created you nor the House.

Therefore remain in your place, be humble and submissive before Karbala, and do not act proudly toward it, otherwise I shall cast you into Hell.” [1203]

We further say:

Karbala also spoke and expressed its distinction in this world, and Allah did not rebuke it.

And it will make another declaration of distinction in Paradise.

As for its declaration in this world, it occurred when it was commanded:

“Speak and mention your virtues.”

So it said:

“I am the land of Allah, blessed and pure.

In my soil and water there is healing.

I do not boast, but rather I am humble and lowly before Allah who made me thus.

I do not boast over other lands.

Rather, I speak these words out of gratitude to Allah.”

Then Allah honored it with al-Imam Husain (a.s.) and his companions because of its humility and gratitude.

Thus Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) said:

“Whoever humbles himself for Allah, Allah elevates him; and whoever exalts himself, Allah lowers him.” [1204]

As for its declaration in Paradise, it will occur when it is made the finest garden of Paradise and the highest of its (darajaat) levels.

Then it will proclaim:

“I am the land of Allah that was pure, purified, and blessed, for I carried within me the Master of Martyrs and the Master of the Youth of Paradise.” [1205]

Thirty-second: The House is called bayt al-'atee'q, meaning that it was preserved from the Flood, or that it has been circumambulated since ancient times.

Likewise, al-Imam Husain (a.s.) is bayt al-'atee'q, for his haaer was preserved from the flood,

and preserved from the flow of water. [1206]

Its sanctity existed from ancient times, before the creation of the heavens and the earth.

It is free from the Fire and is a means of deliverance from it.

Thirty-third: In the Kaʿbah there is al-hateem, which is a cause for the erasure of the sins of the servants.

And through al-Imam Husain (a.s.), all past and future sins are forgiven and erased, and a person becomes pure like the day on which he was born from his mother. [1207]

Thirty-fourth: In the Kaʿbah there is al-mustajaar, where people seek refuge from punishment.

And al-Imam Husain (a.s.), from the day of his birth, has been a place of refuge (mustajaar) for the angels and for all creatures until the Day of Resurrection.

Thirty-fifth: The hijr ismaa'eel of Ismaʿil al-Dhabih (a.s.) is attached to the Kaʿbah, and within it are the graves of Ismaʿil (a.s.) and his daughters.

And between the Corner (al-ruqn) and the Station (al-maqaam) are the graves of seventy Prophets (a.s.), all of whom died from hunger, as has been transmitted in the narrations. [1208]

Likewise, the grave of ʿAli ibn al-Imam Husain (a.s.) is adjacent to al-Imam Husain (a.s.).

And the graves of seventy-two truthful ones (siddiqeen) are at his feet.

All of them were killed while thirsty and were buried in a single grave.

The haaer surrounds them. [1209]

And in that place are buried two hundred Prophets (a.s.) and two hundred successors (awsiyaa), as has been established in authentic narrations. [1210]
