S 29 Ayat 48

قوله تعالى:

وَ مٰا كُنْتَ تَتْلُوا مِنْ قَبْلِهِ مِنْ كِتٰابٍ وَ لاٰ تَخُطُّهُ بِيَمِينِكَ إِذاً لاَرْتٰابَ الْمُبْطِلُونَ [48]

48-/29:48

The saying of Allah, the Most High:

"And you did not recite before it any book, nor did you write it with your right hand; for then the liars would have doubted." (Surah al-‘Ankabut, 29:48, M H Shakir translation)

/8284 _2-علي بن إبراهيم: وَ مٰا كُنْتَ تَتْلُوا مِنْ قَبْلِهِ مِنْ كِتٰابٍ وَ لاٰ تَخُطُّهُ بِيَمِينِكَ إِذاً لاَرْتٰابَ الْمُبْطِلُونَ ،و هو معطوف على قوله في سورة الفرقان: اِكْتَتَبَهٰا فَهِيَ تُمْلىٰ عَلَيْهِ بُكْرَةً وَ أَصِيلاً [1]،فرد اللّه عليهم،فقال:كيف يدعون أن الذي تقرأه و تخبر به تكتبه عن غيرك،و أنت مٰا كُنْتَ تَتْلُوا مِنْ قَبْلِهِ مِنْ كِتٰابٍ وَ لاٰ تَخُطُّهُ بِيَمِينِكَ إِذاً لاَرْتٰابَ الْمُبْطِلُونَ ؟أي شكوا.

‘Ali ibn Ibrahim said regarding Allah’s saying: "And you did not recite before it any book, nor did you write it with your right hand; for then the liars would have doubted." (Surah al-‘Ankabut, 29:48, M H Shakir translation)

This verse is connected to His saying in Surah al-Furqan: "He has had it written down, so they read it out to him morning and evening." (Surah al-Furqan, 25:5, M H Shakir translation)

Allah refuted their claim, saying: How can they allege that what you recite and convey is something you have copied from others, while you did not recite before it any book, nor did you write it with your right hand? Otherwise, the false claimers would have had reason to doubt, meaning they would have suspected (your message).
