S 29 Ayat 14

And certainly We sent Nuh to his people, so he remained among them a thousand years save fifty years, and the deluge overtook them while they were unjust.

99-/8258 _1- Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb narrated: From a group of our companions, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad, from ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥakam, from some of our companions, from Abū ʿAbdillāh (peace be upon him), who said:

Nūḥ (peace be upon him) lived for two thousand and three hundred years. Of these: eight hundred and fifty years were before his appointment (as a prophet), one thousand years minus fifty years he spent among his people calling them (to Allah), and five hundred years after he disembarked from the Ark and the water subsided. He established cities and settled his children in various lands. Then, the Angel of Death came to him while he was sitting in the sun and greeted him with peace. Nūḥ (peace be upon him) returned the greeting and asked: "What has brought you, O Angel of Death?" The angel replied: "I have come to seize your soul." Nūḥ (peace be upon him) said: "Allow me to move from the sun to the shade." The angel replied: "Yes." So Nūḥ moved, and then said: "O Angel of Death, all that passed by me in this world was like my movement from the sun into the shade. Proceed to do what you have been commanded." Then the Angel of Death seized his soul (peace be upon him).

/8259 _2- And from him: From Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿAbdillāh, from Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn, from Muḥammad ibn Sinān, from Ismāʿīl ibn Jābir, ʿAbd al-Karīm ibn ʿAmr, and ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Abī al-Daylam, from Abū ʿAbdillāh (peace be upon him), who said:

"Nūḥ (peace be upon him) lived five hundred years after the flood. Then Jibrāʾīl (peace be upon him) came to him and said: 'O Nūḥ, your prophethood has ended, and you have completed your days. So look to the Greatest Name, the inheritance of knowledge, and the remnants of the knowledge of prophethood that are with you, and hand them over to your son Sām. For I do not leave the earth without there being a scholar through whom My obedience is known, by whom My guidance is recognized, and who will be a means of salvation between the demise of one prophet and the rise of another prophet. And I never leave the people without a proof (ḥujjah) for Me, a caller to Me, a guide to My way, and one who is aware of My command. For I have decreed that I shall appoint for every people a guide, by whom I guide the fortunate and who will be the proof over the wretched.'"

He (peace be upon him) said:

"So Nūḥ (peace be upon him) handed over the Greatest Name, the inheritance of knowledge, and the remnants of the knowledge of prophethood to Sām. As for Ḥām and Yāfith, they did not possess any knowledge from which they could benefit." He (peace be upon him) said: "And Nūḥ (peace be upon him) gave them the glad tidings of Hūd (peace be upon him) and commanded them to follow him. He also instructed them to open the will (waṣiyyah) every year, look into it, and keep it as a covenant for them."

99-/8260 _3- Ibn Bābawayh narrated: Aḥmad ibn Ziyād ibn Jaʿfar al-Hamadānī (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to us, he said: ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us, from his father Ibrāhīm ibn Hāshim, from ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥakam, from Hishām ibn Sālim, from al-Ṣādiq Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad (peace be upon him), who said:

"Nūḥ (peace be upon him) lived for two thousand and five hundred years. Of these: eight hundred and fifty years were before he was sent as a prophet, one thousand years minus fifty years he spent among his people calling them (to Allah), two hundred years constructing the Ark, and five hundred years after he disembarked from the Ark and the water receded. During this period, he established cities and settled his children in various lands."

Then the Angel of Death came to him while he was sitting in the sun and said: "Peace be upon you." Nūḥ (peace be upon him) returned the greeting and said to him: "What has brought you, O Angel of Death?" He replied: "I have come to seize your soul." Nūḥ (peace be upon him) said to him: "Will you allow me to move from the sun to the shade?" He said to him: "Yes." So Nūḥ (peace be upon him) moved, then said: "O Angel of Death, it feels as though all that passed by me in this world is like my moving from the sun into the shade. Proceed to do what you have been commanded." Then he (the Angel of Death) seized his soul (peace be upon him).
