Al-Kahf Ayah 101-102

Quran 18:99 — And on that day We will leave some of them in conflict with others, and the trumpet shall be blown, then We will gather them all together. (M. H. Shakir)

99-/6800 — ‘Ali b. Ibrahim said: His saying, “And on that day We will leave some of them in conflict with others,” means they will be mixed together; “and the trumpet shall be blown, then We will gather them all together.”

99-/6801 — Al-‘Ayyāshī, from al-Asbagh b. Nubāta, from the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him), said: “And on that day We will leave some of them in conflict with others” means the Day of Resurrection.

Quran 18:101–102 — Those whose eyes were under a cover from My reminder and they could not even hear. Do those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants to be guardians besides Me? Surely We have prepared hell for the unbelievers as an entertainment. (M. H. Shakir)

99-/6802 — Ibn Bābawayh said: Tamīm b. ‘Abd Allāh b. Tamīm al-Qurashī narrated to us in Farghāna [1], who said: My father narrated to us, from Aḥmad b. ‘Alī al-Anṣārī, from Abū al-Ṣalt ‘Abd al-Salām b. Ṣāliḥ al-Harawī, who said: Al-Ma’mūn asked al-Riḍā, ‘Alī b. Mūsā (peace be upon him), about the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: “Those whose eyes were under a cover from My reminder and they could not even hear.”

He (peace be upon him) said: “A covering over the eye does not prevent remembrance, and remembrance is not seen by the eyes; rather, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, likened the disbelievers in the guardianship (wilāyah) of ‘Alī b. Abī Ṭālib (peace be upon him) to the blind, because they belittled what the Prophet (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) said about him, so they could not listen to it.” Al-Ma’mūn said: “You have relieved me; may Allah relieve you.”

99-/6803 — ‘Alī b. Ibrāhīm said: Ja‘far b. Aḥmad narrated to us, from ‘Abd Allāh b. Mūsā, from al-Ḥusayn b. ‘Alī b. Abī Ḥamzah, from his father, and al-Ḥusayn b. Abī al-‘Alā’, and ‘Abd Allāh b. Waḍḍāḥ, and Shu‘ayb al-‘Aqarqūfī, all of them, from Abū Baṣīr, from Abū ‘Abd Allāh (peace be upon him). I said: His saying, “Those whose eyes were under a cover from My reminder”? He said: “By ‘reminder’ He means the guardianship (wilāyah) of ‘Alī, Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him); that is His saying, ‘My reminder.’” I said: His saying, “they could not even hear”? He said: “They could not, when ‘Alī (peace be upon him) was mentioned in their presence, bear to hear his mention, due to the intensity of their hatred toward him and their enmity toward him and the People of his House.”

I said: His saying, “Do those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants to be guardians besides Me? Surely We have prepared Hell for the unbelievers as a lodging”? He (peace be upon him) said: “He means the two of them and their partisans [1]—those who took the two of them as guardians besides Allah—and they thought that by loving them the two would save them from Allah’s punishment; but by their love for the two they were disbelievers.”

I said: His saying, “Surely We have prepared Hell for the unbelievers as a lodging”? He said: “That is, a dwelling; so it is made ready for the two of them and their partisans [2] with Allah.” [3]

I said: His saying, “as a lodging (nuzulan)”? He said: “A shelter and a dwelling.”

99-/6804 — Al-‘Ayyāshī, from Muḥammad b. Ḥakīm, who said: I wrote a note to Abū ‘Abd Allāh (peace be upon him) in which I asked: “Does the soul have the ability for knowledge?” He said: “No.”

I said: Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says: “Those whose eyes were under a cover from My reminder and they could not even hear.” He said: “It is like His saying: ‘They were not able to hear, and they did not see.’” [Quran 11:20 — They shall not escape in the earth, nor shall they have any guardians besides Allah; the punishment shall be doubled for them. They could not bear to hear and they did not see. (M. H. Shakir)]

I said: So He blamed them? [5] He said: “He did not blame them for what He did in their hearts, but He blamed them for what they themselves did; and had they not undertaken (the wrongdoing), there would have been nothing against them.”

99-/6805 — ‘Alī b. Ibrāhīm, regarding His saying, “Do those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants to be guardians besides Me? Surely We have prepared Hell for the unbelievers as a lodging”: it means “a dwelling.”

Quran 18:103 — Say: Shall We inform you of the greatest losers in deeds? (M. H. Shakir)
