99-/1140 _13- From ‘Ali, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), he said: I asked him about Allah’s statement regarding the orphans: “And if you mingle with them, then they are your brothers.” He said: They may have dates and milk, and you may have the like of it, in proportion to what suffices you and them; and nothing is hidden from Allah—He knows the corrupter from the reformer.
99-/1141 _14- From ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Hajjaj, from Abu al-Hasan Musa (peace be upon him). He said: I said to him: There is something belonging to the orphan with me, and he is in my care; I spend on him from it, and sometimes I partake of what belongs to him of food, while what I provide from myself to him is more. He said: There is no harm in that; indeed Allah knows the corrupter from the reformer.
And do not marry idolatresses until they believe (al-Baqarah 2:221)
Translation (M. H. Shakir): And do not marry idolatresses until they believe; and certainly a believing maid is better than an idolatress, even though she should please you; and do not give (your daughters) in marriage to idolaters until they believe; and certainly a believing man is better than an idolater, even though he should please you; these invite to the fire, and Allah invites to the garden and to forgiveness by His will, and makes clear His communications to men that they may be mindful. (al-Baqarah 2:221)
99-/1142 _1- Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub: from Muhammad ibn Yahya, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from Ibn Faddal, from al-Hasan ibn al-Jahm, who said: Abu al-Hasan al-Rida (peace be upon him) said to me: “O Abu Muhammad, what do you say about a man who marries a Christian woman in addition to a Muslim woman?” I said: May I be ransomed for you! What is my saying in your presence?! He said: “You must say, for by saying it you will come to know my view.” I said: It is not permissible to marry a Christian woman over a Muslim woman, nor over a non-Muslim woman. He said: “And why is that?” I said: Because of Allah’s saying: “And do not marry idolatrous women until they believe.” He said: “So what do you say about this verse: ‘And the chaste women from among those who were given the Book before you’ [1].” I said: His saying “And do not marry idolatrous women…” abrogated this verse. He smiled and then was silent.
Translation (M. H. Shakir): And they ask you about menstruation. Say: It is an impurity; therefore keep aloof from the women during the menstrual discharge and do not go near them until they have become clean; then when they have cleansed themselves, go in to them as Allah has commanded you; surely Allah loves those who turn much (to Him), and He loves those who purify themselves.
