The Last Assembly at Dawn on the Night of ʿĀshūrāʾ
The Last Assembly at Dawn on the Night of ʿĀshūrāʾ
The thirtieth gathering took place in the pre-dawn hours of the night of ʿĀshūrāʾ.
It is narrated in Manāqib that when the time of dawn approached, Imām al-Ḥusayn (a.s.) dozed briefly.
When he awoke, he said:
“I saw in a dream that several dogs attacked me and tore me apart. Among them was a black-and-white dog that attacked me more fiercely than the others.
I think that my killer will be a man afflicted with leprosy from among these people.
After that, I saw my grandfather, the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.), accompanied by a group of his companions.
He said:
‘My son, you are the martyr of the family of Muhammad (s.a.w.a.). The inhabitants of the heavens rejoice at your arrival.
Tomorrow evening break your fast with me.
Hasten your coming, for an angel has just descended from heaven carrying a green bottle in which your blood will be preserved.’”
Then the Imām said:
“This is the dream that I have seen, and there is no doubt that the time of departure is near.” [674]
The concluding gathering, the final gathering of that noble master, was when he lay upon the earth with his body torn and wounded, his final breaths approaching.
In that state he recited an elegy concerning himself and his family, while the Listener was Allah, the Exalted.
He said:
“O Allah, Exalted in station, Mighty in majesty...”
continuing with the supplication whose passages were mentioned previously. [675]
