English: The graves; and that is the Day of the Approaching (al-Āzifāh), when the hearts will be at the throats, suppressed [1]. And that is a Day in which no slip will be set right, no ransom will be taken from anyone, no excuse will be accepted from anyone, and no one will have any future chance for repentance; there will be nothing but recompense for good deeds and recompense for evil deeds. So whoever among the believers has done in this world the weight of an atom of good will find it, and whoever among the believers has done in this world the weight of an atom of evil will find it.
Qur’an 3:31 (M. H. Shakir): Say: If you love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you and forgive you your faults; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

99-/1649 English: Muhammad b. Ya‘qub, with his chain from Jabir b. Yazid, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), said: “The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) said: Allah said in His decisive Book: Whoever obeys the Messenger, he indeed obeys Allah, and whoever turns back, so We have not sent you as a keeper over them [Qur’an 4:80; Shakir]. Thus He coupled obedience to him with obedience to Himself, and disobedience to him with disobedience to Himself. That was evidence of what He delegated to him, and a testimony for him against whoever followed him and disobeyed him. He explained that in more than one place in the Mighty Book, so He—blessed and exalted—said, urging the following of him, encouraging belief in him, and accepting his summons: Say: If you love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you and forgive you your faults [Qur’an 3:31; Shakir]. Following him (may Allah bless him and his family) is the love of Allah and His good pleasure, the forgiveness of sins, the perfection of success, and the obligation of Paradise; and in turning away from him and shunning him there is opposition to Allah, His anger and wrath, and remoteness from Him, which is the abode of the Fire. And that is His saying: And whoever of the parties disbelieves in him, the Fire is his promised place [Qur’an 11:17; Shakir], meaning denial of him and disobedience to him.”

99-/1650 English: From him, he said: ‘Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn Faddal, from Hafs the mu’adhdhin, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him); and from Muhammad b. Isma‘il b. Bazi‘, from Muhammad b. Sinan, from Isma‘il b. Jabir, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), in a written scroll which he brought out for his companions: “Know that when Allah intends good for a servant, He expands his breast for Islam. When He grants him that, his tongue speaks the truth, his heart binds itself to it, and he acts upon it. When Allah gathers all that for him, his Islam is complete for him, and if he dies in that state, he is truly among the Muslims in Allah’s sight.
And when Allah does not intend good for a servant, He leaves him to himself, and his breast is tight and constricted. If a truth flows upon his tongue, his heart does not bind itself to it, and if his heart does not bind itself to it, Allah does not grant him to act upon it. If all that gathers upon him until he dies in that state, then in Allah’s sight he is among the hypocrites. What has flowed upon his tongue of truth, which Allah did not grant him that his heart bind itself to nor to act upon, becomes a proof against him on the Day of Resurrection.
So be mindful of Allah, and ask Him to expand your breasts for Islam, and to make your tongues speak the truth until He takes your souls while you are upon that, and to make your return the return of the righteous before you. There is no power except with Allah; and praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
Whoever is gladdened to know that Allah loves him, let him act in obedience to Allah and follow us. Has he not heard the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, to His Prophet: Say: If you love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you and forgive you your faults? [Qur’an 3:31; Shakir] By Allah, no servant ever obeys Allah except that Allah causes him, in his obedience, to follow us; and by Allah, no servant ever follows us except that Allah loves him; and by Allah, no one ever abandons following us except that he detests us; and by Allah, no one ever detests us except that he disobeys Allah. Whoever dies disobeying Allah, Allah will disgrace him and cast him on his face in the Fire. And praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.”»

Ja‘far al-Himyari narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rayyan b. al-Salt, who said: Al-Rida (peace be upon him) attended al-Ma’mun’s assembly, and a group from the people of Iraq and Khurasan had gathered to him in his session. He mentioned the narration until he said in it: Al-Ma’mun said: “Has Allah given the ‘Itrah preference over the rest of the community?” Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him) said: “Indeed Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has made clear the excellence of the ‘Itrah over the rest of mankind in His decisive Book.” Al-Ma’mun said: “And where is that in the Book of Allah?” Al-Rida (peace be upon him) said to him: “In His saying, Mighty and Majestic: Surely Allah chose Adam and Nuh and the descendants of Ibrahim and the descendants of ‘Imran above the nations; offspring, one of the other [Qur’an 3:33-34; Shakir].” He said: “It means that the ‘Itrah are included among the descendants of Ibrahim, because the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) is from the progeny of Ibrahim (peace be upon him),” and he is the answer to Ibrahim’s supplication, as the hadith has passed regarding that from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family), and his ‘Itrah are from him (may Allah bless him and his family).
