S 55 Ayat 39

قوله تعالى:

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لاٰ يُسْئَلُ عَنْ ذَنْبِهِ إِنْسٌ وَ لاٰ جَانٌّ[39]

"So on that day neither man nor jinni shall be asked about his sin."

 /10331 _2-علي بن إبراهيم:قوله فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لاٰ يُسْئَلُ عَنْ ذَنْبِهِ ،قال:منكم،يعني من الشيعة إِنْسٌ وَ لاٰ جَانٌّ ،قال:معناه أن من تولى أمير المؤمنين(عليه السلام)،و تبرأ من أعدائه،و أحل حلاله و حرم حرامه،ثمّ دخل في الذنوب و لم يتب في الدنيا،عذب عليها في البرزخ،و يخرج يوم القيامة،و ليس له ذنب يسئل عنه يوم القيامة.

ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm: Regarding His saying: “So on that day no man shall be asked about his sin, nor shall any jinn” (Surah ar-Rahman 55:39, M.H. Shakir translation), he said: “[It refers to] from among you,” meaning the Shīʿah.

Its meaning is that whoever has accepted the guardianship (wilāyah) of Amīr al-Muʾminīn (peace be upon him), disassociated from his enemies, deemed his permissible things as permissible and his forbidden things as forbidden, and then entered into sins but did not repent in the world, will be punished for them in the barzakh (intermediate realm), and will emerge on the Day of Resurrection without any sin for which he would be questioned.

99-/10332 _3- ابْنُ بَابَوَيْهِ فِي(بِشَارَاتٍ الشِّيعَةِ)،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ مَاجِيلَوَيْهِ(رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ)،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى،عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ،عَنْ مَيْسَرَةَ [2]،قَالَ:سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)يَقُولُ: «لاَ يُرَى مِنْكُمْ فِي النَّارِ اثْنَانِ،لاَ وَ اللَّهِ وَ لاَ وَاحِدٌ».

قَالَ:قُلْتُ:فَأَيْنَ ذَا مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ؟فَأَمْسَكَ عَنِّي سَنَةً،قَالَ:فَإِنِّي مَعَهُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فِي الطَّوَافِ،إِذْ قَالَ:«يَا مَيْسَرَةُ، أُذِنَ لِي فِي جَوَابِكَ عَنْ مَسْأَلَتِكَ كَذَا».قَالَ:قُلْتُ:فَأَيْنَ هُوَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ؟

Ibn Bābawayh in Bishārāt al-Shīʿa said: Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī Mājilawayh (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated to us, who said: Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā narrated to us, from Ḥanẓalah, from Maysarah [2], who said: I heard Abū al-Ḥasan al-Riḍā (peace be upon him) say: "Not even two among you will be seen in the Fire—by Allah, not even one!"

I said: Then how does that accord with the Book of Allah?

He withheld a response from me for a year. Then one day while I was with him during ṭawāf (circumambulation [of the Kaʿbah]), he said: "O Maysarah, I have been permitted to answer your question now."

I said: Then where is it in the Qur’an?

قَالَ:«فِي سُورَةِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَ هُوَ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ:(فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لاَ يُسْئَلُ عَنْ ذَنْبِهِ مِنْكُمْ إِنْسٌ وَ لاَ جَانٌّ) .فَقُلْتُ لَهُ:لَيْسَ فِيهَا(مِنْكُمْ)؟قَالَ:«إِنَّ أَوَّلَ مَنْ غَيَّرَهَا ابْنُ أَرْوَى [1]،وَ ذَلِكَ أَنَّهَا حُجَّةٌ عَلَيْهِ وَ عَلَى أَصْحَابِهِ،وَ لَوْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهَا(مِنْكُمْ)لَسَقَطَ عِقَابُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ عَنْ خَلْقِهِ،إِذَا لَمْ يُسْئَلُ عَنْ ذَنْبِهِ إِنْسٌ وَ لاَ جَانٌّ،فَلِمَنْ يُعَاقِبُ اللَّهُ إِذَنْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ»؟.

He said: "It is in Sūrat al-Raḥmān, and it is the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: (So on that day, none from among you humans and jinn shall be asked about his sin)."

I said to him: But that verse does not contain the words 'from among you' (مِنْكُمْ)?

He said: "The first one who altered it was Ibn Arwā [1], because it is a proof against him and his companions. And if it did not contain the phrase (from among you), then Allah’s punishment would be lifted from His creation, since no human or jinn would be asked about his sin—so then whom would Allah punish on the Day of Judgment?"

99-/10333 _1- الطَّبْرِسِيُّ:رُوِيَ عَنِ الرِّضَا(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،قَالَ: (فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لاَ يُسْئَلُ مِنْكُمْ عَنْ ذَنْبِهِ إِنْسٌ وَ لاَ جَانٌّ)».

99-/10333 Al-Ṭabrisī: It is narrated from al-Riḍā (peace be upon him), who said: "(So on that day, none from among you shall be asked about his sin—neither man nor jinn.)"
