85. The Burning Heart for Imām Husain (a.s.)
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Jadīd al-Islām, son of Taqī from the city of Mashhad and resident of the village Guharān (in Khoy), narrates:
"Our grandfather was a priest from the Armenian-inhabited village of Saʿīdābād, in the district of Khoy. In his youth, he went to Tbilisi and the Caucasus for studies. The priests there honored him and invited him in turns as a guest.
One day, when it was the head priest’s turn, ten priests arrived with him. They asked the host to allow them to visit a private garden that was usually restricted. The host permitted them, and they entered.
In the garden, our grandfather came across a book written to prove the truth of the sacred religion of Islam. After reading a few passages, he became spiritually shaken and decided to head toward Iran to embrace Islam."
The Vision in the Crypt
"On his journey to Iran, exhausted, he entered a cellar for rest and saw a freshly placed corpse.
Suddenly, he heard a sound, the wall cracked open, and two golden candlesticks were placed at the head and feet of the deceased.
Again, a sound came, this time from above the head, and a golden chair was placed.
Then, a dignified figure of medium height entered and sat on the chair. He looked into a notebook and commanded the people standing in his service:
'Smell the body from head to toe.'
They did so and reported, 'On the day of ʿĀshūrā, his heart was burning with grief.'
The figure noted this in the notebook and left.
My grandfather said: They addressed him as “Yā ʿAlī.”
He was so awe-inspiring that I fainted from fear. When I regained consciousness, I saw that the noble person was standing above me, helping me recite the shahādatayn (testimony of faith).
He placed his index finger on my shoulder — and to this day, the imprint of that finger remains."
Acceptance of Islam and Legacy
"He eventually entered Iran and embraced Islam. He was circumcised in Jolfā of Ādharbāyjān and returned to his homeland.
After declaring Islam, he faced opposition from his family and the people of Saʿīdābād, so he left the village and settled in the Shahānq area.
What is astonishing is that in every generation thereafter, the imprint of that sacred finger remained visible."
The narrator, the late Shaykh Ḥasan Baṣīrī (1338–1428 AH), writes:
“In that very gathering, in the presence of his father and others, I opened ʿAbd al-Raḥmān’s shoulder and saw the finger mark with my own eyes.”
