Imam Husain (a.s.) in the Lap of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.)
Imam Husain (a.s.) in the Lap of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.)
And among the remarkable narrations is a tradition transmitted from Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.), who said:
One day Imam Husain (a.s.) was sitting in the lap of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.), and the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) was showing him affection.
ʿA’ishah said:
“How much you love this child!”
He replied:
“How could I not love him when he is the fruit of my heart and the light of my eyes? Yet indeed my community will kill him. Therefore, whoever visits him after his death, Allah will write for him the reward of one Hajj from among my Hajj pilgrimages.”
She said:
“One Hajj from among your Hajj pilgrimages?”
He (s.a.w.a.) replied:
“Yes, rather two Hajj pilgrimages from among my Hajj pilgrimages.”
She said:
“Two Hajj pilgrimages from among your Hajj pilgrimages?”
He (s.a.w.a.) replied:
“Yes, rather four Hajj pilgrimages from among my Hajj pilgrimages.”
And she continued expressing amazement, while the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) continued increasing the reward,
until it reached ninety Hajj pilgrimages and ʿUmrahs of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.). [137]
Thus I became hopeful.
Then I entered the ninth state.
I feared that the rights of people (ḥuqūq al-nās) might consume my deeds.
For it has been narrated that a person will be brought on the Day of Resurrection whose deeds will illuminate the entire plain of Qiyamah. Then those who possess claims against him will take away those deeds, and place their own sins upon him, and he will be led into the Fire. [138]
Once again fear overcame me, and I sought refuge in the tenth state.
I reflected and saw that it has been narrated concerning the reward of weeping for that noble one (a.s.) that there is no limit and no end to its reward. [139]
Therefore I became hopeful that no matter how much the people possessing claims against me might take away, it would still never be exhausted.
Then I moved into the eleventh state.
I saw that according to many narrations, the condition for the acceptance of all deeds is the acceptance of prayer (ṣalāh). [140]
So I said to myself:
Perhaps your prayers have not been accepted, and if they are rejected, then all your deeds will be rejected as well.
The matter then became difficult for me, and I came close to despair.
Suddenly I passed into the twelfth state.
With it, all conflicting possibilities came to an end, and my hope became firmly established therein.
For means of security and reassurance arrived one after another.
That was because I observed the extraordinary characteristics that belong to the Husaini means (wasā’il al Husainiyyah):
