Al-Kahf Ayah 52-53

And on the day when He shall say: Call on those whom you asserted to be My associates; so they shall call on them, but they shall not answer them, and We will make a separation between them. (M. H. Shakir)

And the guilty shall see the fire, and they shall know that they are about to fall into it, and they shall not find a way to escape from it. (M. H. Shakir)

/6704 _1- Ali ibn Ibrāhīm said regarding His saying, “And We made a barrier between them”: it means a veil.

He said regarding, “And the guilty shall see the Fire, and they shall think they are about to fall into it”: it means they knew it; this is a certainty-knowledge kind of “thinking.”

And certainly We have explained in this Quran every kind of example, and man is most of all given to contention. (M. H. Shakir)

99-/6706 _3- Ibn Shahr Āshūb: from Abū Bakr al-Shīrāzī in his book, from Mālik ibn Anas, from Ibn Shihāb; and from Abū Yūsuf Yaʿqūb ibn Sufyān in his Tafsīr; and from Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Abū Yaʿlā al-Mawṣilī in their Musnads. Ibn Shihāb said:

ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn (peace be upon him) informed me that his father al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī (peace be upon him) mentioned that ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (peace be upon him) informed him: The Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family) came to me and to Fāṭimah, daughter of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family), at night and said, “Will you not pray?” I replied, “O Messenger of Allah, our souls are in the hand of Allah; if He wills to rouse us, He will rouse us”—that is, He will increase His grace toward us. He turned away when I said that and did not reply to me. Then I heard him, as he was turning away, striking his thighs and saying: “And man”—meaning ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib—“is most of all given to contention,” that is, speaking the truth and what is right.
