At the Time When His Companions Had Been Martyred
At the Time When His Companions Had Been Martyred
The Third Appeal:
When all of his sons and companions had been killed, and he remained alone and without support.
He then emerged from the tents with the intention of meeting Allah.
He stood before the enemy while mounted upon his horse.
He looked to his right and saw no one.
He looked to his left and saw no one.
He saw that all of his Ahl al-Bayt (a.s.) and companions lay upon the ground, while his women and children had been left without any protector.
Then he cried out:
“Is there anyone who will come to our aid purely for the sake of Allah?
Is there anyone who will help us in the path of Allah?”
This appeal had such an effect upon the women that it deprived them of their patience and endurance.
All at once they raised their voices in lamentation and weeping, and the sound of their cries reached the Imam (a.s.) in the midst of the battlefield.
The Imam (a.s.) then returned to the tents and said:
“Remain calm and do not give the enemies an opportunity to rejoice over me.
You still have much weeping ahead of you.” [952]
Therefore, it is fitting that the lovers of the Imam (a.s.), when they bring this appeal to mind, should answer it with cries, lamentation, and mourning, and say:
“Labbayk, O Caller to Allah,”
and continue with the remainder of the ziyārah.
For indeed that noble one (a.s.) will be pleased with them.
