Translation: When death approached him, he instructed his brothers to carry him to al-Shām and bury him with his forefathers. Then after him, Judah assumed authority, then Reuben, then Re’alūn, then Simeon, then Mu‘jiz [1], then Ma‘mā’īl, then Dan, then Levi, then Shadkh, then Khaybir [2]. Aaron and Moses (peace be upon our Prophet and his family, and upon them) were from the lineage of Levi, and between Joseph’s entering Egypt and Moses’ entering it were four hundred and eighty years.

Quran 12:102-105 (M. H. Shakir): This is of the announcements relating to the unseen which We reveal to you, and you were not with them when they resolved upon their affair and they were devising plans. And most men will not believe though you desire it eagerly. And you do not ask them for a reward for this; it is nothing but a reminder for all mankind. And how many a sign in the heavens and the earth which they pass by, yet they turn aside from it.
99-/5391 (Tafsir al-Qummi 1:357): ‘Alī ibn Ibrāhīm said: Then Allah said to His Prophet: “This is of the announcements relating to the unseen which We reveal to you, and you were not with them when they resolved upon their affair and they were devising plans.” Then He said: “And most men will not believe though you desire it eagerly.” And regarding His saying: “And how many a sign in the heavens and the earth which they pass by, yet they turn aside from it,” he said: the eclipses, earthquakes, and thunderbolts.

99-/5394 (Tafsir al-Qummi 1:358): ‘Alī ibn Ibrāhīm said: Ahmad ibn Idrīs informed us, he said: Ahmad ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, from ‘Alī ibn al-Ḥakam, from Mūsā ibn Bakr, from al-Fuḍayl, from Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him), regarding Allah’s saying: “And most of them do not believe in Allah without associating others (with Him).” He said: It is shirk of obedience and not shirk of worship; the sins they commit are shirk of obedience: they obeyed Satan therein and so associated (others) with Allah in obedience to other than Him; it is not associating in worship, such that they worship other than Allah.
99-/5395 (Tafsir al-‘Ayyāshī 2:90/199): Al-‘Ayyāshī, from Zurārah, who said: I asked Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him) about Allah’s saying: “And most of them do not believe in Allah without associating others (with Him).” He said: Among that is a man’s saying: “No, by your life!”
99-/5396 (Tafsir al-‘Ayyāshī 2:91/199): From Ya‘qūb ibn Shu‘ayb, who said: I asked Abū ‘Abd Allāh (peace be upon him) about “And most of them do not believe in Allah without associating others (with Him).” He said: They used to say: “We are rained upon by the influence of such-and-such star,” and “by the influence of such-and-such we are not rained upon.” And among them was that they would go to soothsayers and believe them in what they say.
99-/5397 (Tafsir al-‘Ayyāshī 2:92/199): From Muḥammad ibn al-Fuḍayl, from al-Riḍā (peace be upon him), who said: A shirk that does not reach (the level of) disbelief.
99-/5398 (Tafsir al-‘Ayyāshī 2:93/199): From Zurārah, from Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him), who said: It is shirk of obedience: a man’s saying, “No, by Allah and so-and-so,” and, “Were it not for Allah—so-and-so,” and sin falls under it.
5399 (Tafsir al-‘Ayyāshī 2:94/199): Abū Baṣīr, from Abū Isḥāq, said: It is a man’s saying, “Were it not for Allah and you, such-and-such would not have been done to me,” and the like of that.
99-/5400 (Tafsir al-‘Ayyāshī 2:95/199): From Zurārah, from Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him): It is shirk of obedience and not shirk of worship; and the sins which they commit, for which Allah has made the Fire obligatory, are shirk of obedience: they obeyed Satan and associated with Allah in obeying him; but it was not shirk of worship, that they would worship alongside Allah other than Him.
99-/5401 (Tafsir al-‘Ayyāshī 2:96/200): From Mālik ibn ‘Aṭiyyah, from Abū ‘Abd Allāh (peace be upon him), regarding His saying: “And most of them do not believe in Allah without associating others (with Him).” He said: It is the man who says: “Were it not for so-and-so, I would have perished; were it not for so-and-so, I would have obtained such-and-such; were it not for so-and-so, my dependents would have been lost.” Do you not see that he has made for Allah a partner in His dominion—one who provides for him and wards off from him? I said: So if he says, “Were it not that Allah favored me with so-and-so, I would have perished”? He said: Yes; there is no harm in this.
99-/5402 (Tafsir al-‘Ayyāshī 2:98/200): From Zurārah, from Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him), who said: It is shirk of obedience and not shirk of worship in the sins they commit; it is shirk of obedience: they obeyed Satan therein and associated in Allah (i.e., in His right) by obeying other than Him; and it is not associating in worship that they worship other than Him.
99-/5403 (al-Tawḥīd 1:321): Ibn Bābawayh said: ‘Alī ibn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Imrān al-Daqqāq (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated to us, he said: Muḥammad ibn Abī ‘Abd Allāh al-Kūfī narrated to us, he said: Muḥammad ibn Ismā‘īl al-Barmakī narrated to us, he said: al-Ḥusayn ibn al-Ḥasan narrated to us, he said: my father narrated to me, from Ḥanān ibn Sadīr, who said: I asked Abū ‘Abd Allāh (peace be upon him) about the Throne and the Footstool, and he mentioned the ḥadīth until he said: And to Him belong the Most Beautiful Names which none but He is called by, and they are those He described in the Book, for He said: “So call on Him by them, and leave those who deviate concerning His names” [al-A‘rāf 7:180]—in ignorance, without knowledge. So whoever deviates concerning His Names without knowledge commits shirk without realizing it, and disbelieves in Him while he thinks he is doing well. Thus He said: “And most of them do not believe in Allah without associating others (with Him).” They are those who deviate concerning His Names without knowledge, placing them in other than their proper places. And the ḥadīth in full will come—if Allah, Most High, wills—under His saying: “He is the Lord of the Great Throne” from Sūrat al-Naml.
