Qur’an 2:203 (M. H. Shakir): And remember Allah during the appointed number of days; then whoever hastens off in two days, there is no blame on him, and whoever remains behind, there is no blame on him, for him who guards (against evil), and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, and know that you shall be gathered together to Him.

If one departs after the first [day], the townspeople cease; and whoever remains at Minā and performs ẓuhr and ‘aṣr there, let him pronounce the takbīr.”

He said to me: “As for the second day, do not depart until the sun passes the zenith; and as for the third day, when the sun has whitened, then depart with Allah’s blessing. For Allah—majestic is His praise—says: So whoever hastens in two days, there is no sin upon him. Had He kept silent, no one would remain but that he would hasten; but He said: and whoever delays, there is no sin upon him.”

Najīḥ al-Rammāḥ, who said: We were with Abū ‘Abdillāh (peace be upon him) at Minā one night, and he said: “What do these people say about: So whoever hastens in two days, there is no sin upon him?” We said: We do not know. He said: “Indeed, they say: Whoever hastens from the desert folk, there is no sin upon him; and whoever delays from the town folk, there is no sin upon him. But it is not as they say. Allah—majestic is His praise—said: So whoever hastens in two days, there is no sin upon him, and whoever delays, there is no sin upon him. Behold—there is no sin upon him—for whoever is Godwary. It is for you, while people are but a multitude, and you are the pilgrims.”

But if you delay until the last of the Days of Tashrīq—which is the day of the final departure—then there is no harm upon you at whatever time you depart, and whether you perform the stoning before or after the zenith.” He said: And I heard him say regarding Allah’s saying: So whoever hastens in two days, there is no sin upon him; and whoever delays, there is no sin upon him, for him who is Godwary: “He avoids hunting until the people of Minā depart.”

99-/1043 _6- Then Ibn Bābawayh said: And in the narration of Ibn Maḥbūb, from Abū Ja‘far al-Aḥwal, from Salām b. al-Mustanīr, from Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him), that he said: “For whoever avoids sexual talk, debauchery, and disputation, and what Allah has made forbidden for him in his state of iḥrām.”

99-/1045 _8- And he said: In the narration of Sulaymān b. Dāwūd al-Minqarī, from Sufyān b. ‘Uyaynah, from Abū ‘Abdillāh (peace be upon him), regarding Allah’s saying: So whoever hastens in two days, there is no sin upon him: “It means whoever died—there is no sin upon him; and whoever delays—there is no sin upon him—for whoever avoids the major sins.”

I said: What is arrogance? He said: “The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) said: The gravest arrogance is belittling the creation and foolishly rejecting the truth.” I said: What is belittling the creation and foolishly rejecting the truth? He said: “To be ignorant of the truth and to impugn its people; whoever does that contends with Allah for His mantle.”

99-/1059 _22- From Abū Baṣīr, from Abū ‘Abdillāh (peace be upon him), who said: “When the believing servant leaves his house as a pilgrim, he does not take a step, nor does his mount take a step with him, but that Allah writes for him thereby a good deed, effaces from him a misdeed, and raises him thereby a degree. When he stands at ‘Arafāt, then even if his sins be as numerous as the pebbles, he returns as the day his mother bore him. It is said to him: Begin your deeds anew. Allah says: So whoever hastens in two days, there is no sin upon him, and whoever delays, there is no sin upon him, for him who is Godwary.”
99-/1060 _23- From Abū Baṣīr, in another narration: similar to it, but adding: “When he shaves his head, not a single hair falls but that Allah makes for him by it a light on the Day of Resurrection; and whatever he spends is written for him; and when he circumambulates the House, he returns as the day his mother bore him.”

Qur’an 2:204-205 (M. H. Shakir): And among men is he whose speech about the life of this world causes you to wonder, and he calls on Allah to witness as to what is in his heart, yet he is the most violent of adversaries. And when he turns back, he runs along in the land that he may cause mischief in it and destroy the tilth and the stock, and Allah does not love mischief.
