Ibrahim Ayah 18

And it is torn to pieces beneath his feet, and indeed there issues from one of them pus and filth like a valley. Then he said: They will weep until their tears flow over their faces like streams; then the tears will cease and blood will flow, so that if ships were set to run in it, they would run. And it is His saying:

Quran 47:15 — And they shall be given to drink of boiling water so it shall rend their bowels asunder. (M. H. Shakir)

99-/5702 _4- Al-‘Ayyāshī: from Mas‘adah b. Ṣadaqah, from Ja‘far b. Muḥammad, from his father, from his grandfather (peace be upon them), who said: The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) said: When zaqqūm and ḍarī‘ boil in the bellies of the people of the Fire like the boiling of scalding water, they ask for drink; so they are brought a drink of ghassāq [3] and pus, which he sips but can hardly swallow; and death comes upon him from every place, yet he is not dead; and beyond that is a harsh punishment and scalding water by which Hell has been boiling since it was created, like molten metal that sears the faces—evil is the drink and evil the couch to recline on.

The saying of the Exalted:

Quran 14:18 — The parable of those who disbelieve in their Lord: their works are like ashes on which the wind blows hard on a stormy day; they shall not have power over anything out of what they have earned; this is the straying, far, far (away). (M. H. Shakir)

99-/5703 _1- ‘Alī b. Ibrāhīm said regarding His saying: The parable of those who disbelieve in their Lord: their works are like ashes which the wind blows hard on a stormy day: Whoever does not acknowledge the walāyah of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him), his deed is nullified—like the ashes which the wind comes and carries away.

99-/5704 _2- Muḥammad b. Ya‘qūb: from Muḥammad b. Yaḥyā, from Muḥammad b. al-Ḥusayn, from Ṣafwān b. Yaḥyā, from al-‘Alā’ b. Razīn, from Muḥammad b. Muslim, who said: I heard Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him) say: Whoever worships God with a devotion in which he strains himself, yet he has no Imam from God, his striving is not accepted; he is astray and bewildered, and God detests his deeds. His likeness is that of a ewe that has strayed from its shepherd and its flock. It rushes about going and coming all day; when night covers it, it sees a flock other than its own shepherd; it yearns toward them and is deceived by them, so it spends the night with them in their resting place [5]. When the shepherd drives his flock along, it does not recognize its own shepherd and its flock; thus it goes astray [6], bewildered, seeking its shepherd and its flock. It then sees sheep with their shepherd; it yearns toward them and is deceived by them. The shepherd shouts to it: Rejoin your shepherd and your flock, for you are…

…lost and bewildered from your shepherd and your flock. So she rushes about, alarmed, bewildered, bolting [1], with no shepherd to guide her to her pasture or return her. While she is thus, the wolf seizes upon her being forsaken and eats her. And so, by God, O Muḥammad, whoever of this community awakens without an Imam from God, Mighty and Majestic—manifest and just—awakens astray and wandering; and if he dies upon this state, he dies the death of unbelief and hypocrisy. And know, O Muḥammad, that the unjust Imams and their followers are removed from the religion of God: they have gone astray and led others astray; so the deeds that they do are like ashes upon which the wind blows hard on a stormy day; they have no power over anything of what they acquired—that is the far straying.

The saying of the Exalted:

Quran 14:21-22 — And they shall all come forth before Allah; then the weak shall say to those who were proud: Surely we were your followers; can you therefore avert from us any part of the fire? They shall say: Had Allah guided us, we would surely have guided you; it is the same to us whether we mourn or are patient, there is no escape for us. And the Shaitan shall say after the matter is decided: Surely Allah promised you the promise of truth, and I promised you, then failed you; and I had no authority over you, except that I called you and you obeyed me; therefore do not blame me, but blame yourselves; I cannot be your aider, nor can you be my aiders; surely I disbelieved in your associating me with Allah before; surely it is the unjust that shall have the painful punishment. (M. H. Shakir)

99-/5705 _1- ‘Alī b. Ibrāhīm: His saying, And they shall all come forth before Allah, its meaning is future—that they will come forth—though its wording is past.

99-/5706 _2- Then he said: And His saying, Had Allah guided us, we would surely have guided you—here guidance means recompense. It is the same to us whether we are anxious or patient; we have no escape, that is, no way out. He said: His saying, And the Satan shall say after the matter is decided—meaning, when he has finished with the affair of the world regarding his followers: Surely Allah promised you the promise of truth, and I promised you, then failed you; and I had no authority over you except that I called you and you responded to me; so do not blame me but blame yourselves. I cannot cry to your aid—that is, help you—nor can you cry to my aid—that is, help me. Surely I disbelieved in your associating me with Allah before—meaning, in the world.

99-/5707 _3- Muḥammad b. Ya‘qūb: from ‘Alī b. Ibrāhīm, from his father, from Bakr b. Ṣāliḥ, from al-Qāsim b. Burayd, from Abū ‘Amr al-Zubayrī, from Abū ‘Abdillāh (peace be upon him). He said: The Mighty and Majestic said—mentioning Iblīs and his disowning of his human allies on the Day of Resurrection: Surely I disbelieved in your associating me with Allah before.

99-/5708 _4- Al-‘Ayyāshī: from Ḥarīz, from one he mentioned, from Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him) regarding God’s saying: And the Satan shall say after the matter is decided. He said: It is the second one; and there is no occurrence in the Qur’an of And the Satan said except that it refers to the second.
