The Kaʿbah and al-Imam Husain (a.s.) are places around which the angels perform circumambulation

The Kaʿbah and al-Imam Husain (a.s.) are places around which the angels perform circumambulation

Fourteenth: The Kaʿbah was made the place around which the angels perform circumambulation.

As is mentioned in a narration, Jibraʾil (a.s.), by the command of the Lord, built the Kaʿbah.

Before that, a tent had descended from Paradise and had been erected upon foundations which the angels had built before the creation of Adam (a.s.), opposite the zaraah, which is opposite bayt al-maa'amoor, and that is aligned with the Throne.

Seventy thousand angels guarded that tent.

Then, when Jibraʾil (a.s.) built the House, those angels circumambulated around it, and Adam (a.s.) and Hawwaʾ (a.s.) also circumambulated it seven circuits. [1147]

Likewise, al-Imam Husain (a.s.) was a place around whom the angels performed circumambulation when he was light.

He was also the intercessor of the angels, as is evident from the accounts of Salsaʾil and Dardaʾil.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) lifted al-Imam Husain (a.s.) in his hands and supplicated for them.

Fitrus sought refuge in his cradle.

Jibraʾil (a.s.) and Mikaʾil (a.s.) served him while he was in the cradle.

And the recompense granted to Fitrus is that he conveys the greetings and salutations

of his visitors to him. [1148]

The grave of that noble Imam (a.s.) is also a place around which the angels perform circumambulation and a place of visitation for them.

Among those engaged in this are several groups:

One group consists of four thousand angels who remain disheveled and covered in dust around his grave, continually weeping.

They go out to welcome the visitors.

They worship on their behalf and attend their funerals.

These are the same angels who came on the Day of ʿAshura to visit him.

When they arrived, they found that he had already been martyred.

They were then commanded to remain there and weep until the time of the Rajʿah, when they will be among his helpers.

The name of their leader is Mansur. [1149]

Another group consists of seventy thousand angels who are appointed over the grave of that noble Imam (a.s.) and send blessings upon him from the day of his martyrdom until the rise of al-Qaʾim (a.s.). [1150]

Another group consists of four thousand angels who descend at dawn and weep until noon.

Then they ascend, and another four thousand descend and weep until dawn. [1151]

Another group consists of the angels of night and day, the angels entrusted with recording deeds.

Whenever they descend to the earth, they proceed to al-Haʾir and greet the angels there by shaking hands.

They pass their wings over the visitors and supplicate for them by the command of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.), ʿAli (a.s.), Fatimah (a.s.), al-Hasan (a.s.), and the Imams (a.s.), as has been narrated in the traditions. [1152]

Another group consists of fifty thousand angels.

It is narrated from Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) that these angels passed by al-Imam Husain (a.s.) when he was on the verge of martyrdom.

They then ascended to heaven.

A Divine address came to them:

“You passed by the son of My Beloved while he was being killed,

yet you did not help him.

Therefore, go and remain at his grave, disheveled and covered with dust, until the Day of Resurrection.” [1153]

Another group is mentioned in the narration of Umm Ayman from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.), who said:

“One hundred thousand angels from every heaven surround him every day and night.

They send blessings upon him, glorify Allah, and seek forgiveness for his visitors.

They record the names of those who come to visit him seeking nearness to Allah and His Messenger (s.a.w.a.), as well as the names of their fathers, their tribes, and their homelands.

They place upon their foreheads a mark from the light of the Throne of Allah bearing the inscription:

‘This is a visitor of the grave of the best of martyrs and the son of the best of Prophets.’

Then, when the Day of Resurrection arrives, a light will shine forth from that mark and dazzle the eyes, and by it they will be recognized.”

It is further stated in this same narration that Jibraʾil (a.s.) said to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.):

“I seem to see you, O Muhammad, standing between me and Mikaʾil, while ʿAli (a.s.) stands before us, and with us are so many angels that their number cannot be counted.

Then we shall gather out from among all creation those whose faces bear the mark of that seal, so that they may be saved from the terrors and hardships of the Day of Resurrection.” [1154]

Another group consists of seventy thousand angels who descend at the time of every prayer.

Their turn will not come again until the Day of Resurrection, as has been narrated from Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) in Kamil al-Ziyarat. [1155]

Fifteenth: The Kaʿbah descended from heaven.

As it is narrated from Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) that Allah sent down the Kaʿbah from heaven.

It had four doors, and from each door a golden lamp was suspended. [1156]
