99-/4827 — Thawāb al-A‘māl, p. 106; also Tafsīr al-‘Ayyāshī 2:119: Ibn Bābawayh, with his chain from Fudayl al-Rassān, from Abū ‘Abd Allāh (peace be upon him), said: “Whoever recites Sūrat Yūnus every two or three months will not be in fear of being among the ignorant, and on the Day of Resurrection he will be among those brought near.” Al-‘Ayyāshī transmits the same hadith from Fudayl al-Rassān, from Abū ‘Abd Allāh (peace be upon him).

99-/4828 — Tafsīr al-‘Ayyāshī 2:119: From Abān b. ‘Uthmān, from Muḥammad: Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him) said, “Recite.” I asked, “From what shall I recite?” He said, “Recite from the seventh sūrah.” I began to search for it, so he said, “Recite Sūrat Yūnus.” I recited until I reached: “For those who do good is good and more; neither darkness nor abasement shall cover their faces” (Qur’an 10:26, M. H. Shakir). Then he said, “That suffices.” He continued: “The Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) said: I marvel at how I do not turn grey when I recite the Qur’an!”

99-/4829 — Khaṣā’iṣ al-Qur’ān (Khawāṣṣ al-Qur’ān), vol. 2: From the Prophet (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family): “Whoever recites this sūrah will be given rewards and good deeds equal to the number of those who denied Jonah (peace be upon him) and those who believed in him. And whoever writes it and places it in his house, and names everyone in the dwelling, if they have defects, they will become manifest. And whoever writes it in a basin, washes it with clean water, kneads flour with it, upon the names of the suspects, then bakes it, and breaks a piece for each of them, the suspect will hardly be able to swallow it—indeed, he will never swallow it—and he will confess to the theft.”

Qur’an 10:1-2 (M. H. Shakir): In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the wise Book. What! is it a wonder to the people that We revealed to a man from among themselves, saying: Warn the people and give good news to those who believe that they have a sure footing with their Lord? The unbelievers say: This is most surely an enchanter.

Sa‘īd al-Thawrī, who said: I said to Ja‘far b. Muḥammad b. ‘Alī b. al-Ḥusayn b. ‘Alī b. Abī Ṭālib (peace be upon them): “O son of the Messenger of Allah, what is the meaning of Alif Lām Rā (الر)?” He (peace be upon him) said: “It means: I am Allah, the Compassionate (Ana Allāh al-Ra’ūf).”

99-/4831 — Tafsīr al-Qummī 1:308: ‘Alī b. Ibrāhīm said: “Alif Lām Rā (الر) is a letter from the segmented letters of the Greatest Name in the Qur’an. When the Messenger or the Imam puts it together and supplicates with it, he is answered.” Then he said regarding: “What! is it a wonder to the people that We revealed to a man from among themselves…” meaning the Messenger of Allah (blessings be upon him and his family): “Warn the people and give good news to those who believe that they have a sure footing with their Lord.”
