68. Special Times for Visiting Imam Husain (a.s.)

Throughout the year, at any hour of day or night, the visitation of Imam Husain (a.s.) is desirable, except that in certain special days it is even more strongly recommended. Here are some of them:

1.         Every month, with a reward equal to one hundred thousand martyrs of Badr.

2.         Every week, which results in forgiveness and nearness to Imam Husain (a.s.) in the Hereafter.

3.         The first day of Rajab, which guarantees the forgiveness of sins, with a specific ziyara narrated for it.

4.         The 15th of Rajab, for which there is a special ziyara.

5.         The 3rd of Sha‘ban, which has a specific supplication.

6.         The night of mid-Sha‘ban, whose reward is equal to a thousand Hajj pilgrimages, and 124,000 prophets shake hands with the visitor.

7.         The first, middle, and last nights of Ramadan, in which one emerges from sins like the day his mother bore him.

8.         The nights of Qadr, especially the 23rd night of Ramadan, when the souls of 124,000 prophets shake hands with the visitor.

9.         The night of Eid al-Fitr, which causes forgiveness of past and future sins.

10.       The day of Arafah, whose reward is like one million Hajj in the company of the Qa’im (a.s.), one million ‘Umrah with the Prophet (s.a.w.a.), freeing one million slaves, and sending one million horses in the way of Allah.

11.       The night of Eid al-Adha, when Allah bestows His grace on the visitors of Imam Husain’s grave before the visitors of His own House, and there are two special ziyaras for this night.

12.       The day of Eid al-Adha, which equals one hundred Hajj and ‘Umrah.

13.       The night of Ashura, which is like being martyred in Karbala, soaked in one’s own blood.

14.       The day of Ashura, which is like visiting Allah above His Throne.

15.       The day of Arba‘een, which is a sign of a believer, and for which there are two special ziyaras; on that day the family of Imam Husain (a.s.) arrived back in Karbala, met with Jabir, and on that day the blessed head was joined to the blessed body.

16.       Every Thursday night and Friday day, when seventy thousand angels descend to Karbala to visit Imam Husain (a.s.); reciting Du‘a al-Mazlum in the shrine of Imam Husain (a.s.) on Thursday nights is recommended.

17.       On Fridays from a distance, having performed ghusl, going out on a rooftop or to an open area, facing Karbala, and performing the ziyara.

Finally, it is reminded that what has been presented here is just a drop from an ocean, a handful from a heap, and otherwise the virtues of the visitation of that noble Imam cannot fit in this book.
