26. The Grace of Imam Husain (a.s.) upon Praisers and Eulogists

1.         The son of Haj Ali Ehtesabi narrated:

In Tehran, in a guesthouse, a sum of money went missing. One of the employees of the guesthouse accused another person.

The accused person, who was a eulogist (madah) for the Ahl al-Bayt, said to the accuser:

“If Imam Husain (a.s.) does not expose your false accusation by this year’s Ashura, I will no longer serve in this shrine.”

A few days before Ashura, that accuser got into a fight with three other people and was injured, and on the day of Ashura, he passed away.

2.         One of the eulogists, named Shabestari, was suffering from diabetes.

In one of the mourning gatherings in Tehran, he made a supplication (tawassul), became overwhelmed with emotion, his blood sugar rose, and he passed away right there.

After his burial, his wife went to his grave and said:

“I know you were a true servant and loyal devotee of Imam Husain. For thirty years I served you and every night waited for you to return from the Husaini gatherings so I could welcome you.

I cannot bear to be separated from you. I swear you by Imam Husain (a.s.) to ask God to take my life as well.”

She returned home, lay down, and passed away, and was buried in the final hours of that same day.

3.         Haj Mohsen Shirazi, a eulogist of the Ahl al-Bayt (a.s.), narrated to me:

A number of people bought household goods from me but did not pay for them, putting me in serious financial difficulty. One night, at a mourning gathering for Imam Husain (a.s.), I supplicated to him. When I returned home, I saw in a dream a very magnificent gathering, with more than a thousand dignified people present. I was reciting eulogies, the gathering was in a very spiritual state, and I myself was crying intensely.

All of a sudden, my family woke me up and asked what was wrong. I said, “I was having a dream — why did you wake me?”

The next day I told my dream to Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Ali Rouhani. He said, “Soon you will be blessed to visit Karbala, and all your problems will be resolved.”

In those days, a trip to Karbala cost about a million (rials). Within a month, the journey to the holy shrines became possible, I traveled to Karbala, and by the grace of Imam Husain (a.s.), all my financial problems were solved.

4.         He also narrated:

My mother, who is 80 years old, suffered a stroke some years ago and was admitted to the hospital. That night, our mourning group was gathering at our house. After making supplication, reciting eulogies, and performing chest-beating, I went to the hospital and inquired about my mother.

The nurse asked me, “What does this lady do?”

I replied, “She is a housewife.”

She asked, “Anything else?”

I said, “She is a mourner for Imam Husain (a.s.).”

The nurse said, “I swear by God that around midnight she completely flatlined. We called the doctor, and he said to give her a shock. We gave her several shocks, but there was no response. We became exhausted. Finally, the last time we shocked her, she opened her eyes.”

Now, my mother, despite her old age, has traveled to Karbala alone, staying there for months despite the heat and her problems. When she returned, they looked at her age and situation and even waived her penalties.

5. He (Haj Mohsen Shirazi) narrated:

My wife was pregnant and developed several complications and was hospitalized. The fetus was eight months old. On the eighth of Muharram, her illness worsened and she was admitted again. After examinations, they said:

"She must undergo surgery. The child will definitely die. If we leave it, the baby will have to be kept in an incubator for a while, and the mother’s chance of survival is 50-50. You must sign consent for the operation."

I signed and came out, saying:

"O Abul-Fadl (al-Abbas), I leave this to you," and went back to reciting eulogies.

I turned off my mobile phone, went to the mourning gatherings in the afternoon and at night, and returned home around midnight. The home telephone rang, and they said:

"Why did you turn off your mobile phone?"

I replied: "I was in a gathering and could not answer."

They said: "Come quickly to the hospital."

I went, and saw that a highly specialized doctor had come from Tehran to visit the hospital, saw my wife’s condition, and said:

"I will operate on her and I promise both she and the baby will remain healthy."

I signed the consent again, he operated, and the surgery was performed without any problem. Both my wife came out of surgery safely, and the baby was born completely healthy, without even needing an incubator.

6. For several years I was reciting eulogies during the Ashura days in Najafabad. The custom of that group was that on the first day of Muharram they would sacrifice a sheep, half of it given to the reciter (maddah), and the other half used to feed the gathering.

One portion of it was placed in the freezer, and after Ashura they gave it to me. I brought it to Qom, and for several months we used it. One day my wife said:

"Was this several sheep? Because we have eaten from it for months and it still remains?"

Then, after a few more days, it was finally finished.

These four miracles were narrated to me by Haj Mohsen Shirazi on Friday, 11 Mehr 1392 (solar calendar), at the home of Agha Sayyid Kazem Shahverdi, and he stated they had all happened to him personally.
