Mūsā (a.s.) Was the Possessor of the Staff, and Imam Husain (a.s.) Was the Possessor of the Sword

Mūsā (a.s.) Was the Possessor of the Staff, and Imam Husain (a.s.) Was the Possessor of the Sword

Mūsā (a.s.) was the possessor of the staff, which was a miracle.

And Imam Husain (a.s.) was the possessor of the sword, which was a manifestation of the prophetic courage. It had come to him as an inheritance, and he became renowned for Ḥasanī courage.

Mūsā (a.s.) prayed that Allah would appoint his brother Hārūn (a.s.) as his minister.

And Imam Husain (a.s.) likewise had a minister in the person of his brother al-ʿAbbās (a.s.), who was the strength of his back and the power of his arm.

For this reason, at the time of his martyrdom, he cried out:

“Now my back has been broken.”

For Mūsā (a.s.), one sea was split so that the Children of Israel might pass through it.

And for Imam Husain (a.s.), all the seas surged into waves, and the fish cast themselves out, lamenting over him.

An angel from the angels of the Highest Paradise descended upon the seas, spread out his wings, and proclaimed:

“O people of the seas! Put on the garments of mourning, for the son of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) has been beheaded.” [1427]

And in another narration it is stated that the seas nearly split apart and crashed into one another, had not the angel appointed over them restrained them.

This occurs when

Lady Fāṭimah (a.s.) weeps and laments over her son.

Rather, some narrations state that this occurs repeatedly.

For this reason it has been said:

“Do you not wish to be among the helpers of Lady Fāṭimah (a.s.)?” [1428]

Mūsā (a.s.) dug his own grave with his own hands.

This happened when he passed by a man who was digging a grave.

He asked him:

“For whom is this grave?”

The man replied:

“For a righteous servant from among the servants of Allah.”

Mūsā (a.s.) said:

“Would you like me to help you?”

Then he helped him dig the grave and completed the laḥd (burial niche).

The man said:

“Lie down in it so that I may see whether it is spacious enough.”

Mūsā (a.s.) lay down in it, whereupon his station was shown to him.

He then requested that his soul be taken, and his soul was taken in that very grave. [1429]

And because Imam Husain (a.s.) remained unburied for three days, the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) dug his grave.

Rather, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) also dug the graves of his companions.

As it is narrated that Umm Salamah saw the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) in a dream on the day of ʿĀshūrāʾ, covered in dust.

He said:

“The people attacked my son and martyred him. I saw him slain, and until now I have been occupied with digging graves for Imam Husain (a.s.) and his companions.” [1430]

When the family of Firʿawn took Mūsā (a.s.) from the water, his sister came and watched from a distance to see what would become of him.

She saw the noble ladies of Egypt taking him as a child, passing him from hand to hand and from lap to lap.

They gathered all the nursing women to suckle him, but he would not accept any of them.

Then his sister came and said:

“I know of a household that can care for him.”

And the story continued. [1431]

And when Imam Husain (a.s.) fell from his horse onto the ground, the family of Abū Sufyān surrounded him.

His sister came out from the tents to see what would become of him.

She saw him becoming the target of spears and swords.

She cried out and appealed to the army, saying:

“O son of Saʿd! Will Abū ʿAbdillāh be killed while you look on?” [1432]

When Mūsā (a.s.) brought his family and reached Mount Sinai, cold and rain overtook them on a winter night, and they were unable to kindle a fire.

He looked around and saw a fire in the distance.

Then he said to his family:

“Stay where you are.”

“Indeed, I have perceived a fire. I shall go to it. Perhaps I may bring you a brand from it, or find guidance to a path.” (Surah Ṭā Hā 20:10; Surah al-Naml 27:7) [1433]

If you wish, intend Kalīm Allāh, Mūsā (a.s.).

Or intend Imam Husain (a.s.), the son of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.), who said to his family:

“I have found a fire in the sacred valley and the blessed land. Come with me, for Allah has willed to see you taken captive.” [1434]

Mūsā (a.s.) had become so hungry that the greenness of the plants he ate could be seen through the skin of his stomach. [1435]

And upon Imam Husain (a.s.) the redness of blood was visible from all the limbs of his body, from his head, his hair, and his skin.

And his blessed lips had become dark from thirst.
