99-/ — Do not strain your eyes after what We have given certain classes of them to enjoy, and do not grieve for them, and lower your wing to the believers. (al-Hijr 15:88, M. H. Shakir)

99-/5940 — ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim said: Ahmad ibn Idris informed us; he said: Ahmad ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Sinan, from al-Mufaddal ibn ‘Umar, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: “When this ayah was revealed: ‘Do not strain your eyes after what We have given certain classes of them to enjoy, and do not grieve for them, and lower your wing to the believers,’ the Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) said: ‘Whoever does not console himself with Allah’s consolation, his soul will be torn to pieces over the world in regrets; and whoever casts his gaze toward what is in the hands of others, his worry will increase and his anger will not be soothed; and whoever does not recognize that Allah has a blessing over him—whether in food, or drink, or clothing [1]—then his deed is diminished and his punishment draws near; and whoever wakes up sorrowful about the world wakes up angry with Allah; and whoever complains of a calamity that befalls him only complains against his Lord; and whoever among this community, who has recited the Qur’an, enters the Fire—then he is among those who take the signs of Allah in jest; and whoever goes to a wealthy person and shows him humility seeking what is in his hands, two-thirds of his religion depart.’ Then he said: ‘Do not be hasty. It is not that a man who receives kindness from another and so honors and respects him—this might indeed be due to what is owed to him—but you see that he intends by his humility what is with Allah, while he intends to divert him [3] from what is in his hands.’” [2]
99-/5941 — Al-‘Ayyashi: From Hammad, from some of his companions, from one of the two (peace be upon them both), regarding the saying of Allah: “Do not strain your eyes after what We have given certain classes of them to enjoy.” He said: “A strait befell the Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family), [so he borrowed from a Jew]. The Jew said: ‘By Allah, Muhammad does not even have a bleating [lamb]…’”
