The Bestowal from All Created Things Upon Imam Husain (a.s.)

Indication

Concerning what Allah bestowed upon Imam Husain (a.s.) from the rest of creation, its summary is contained in several chapters:

The Chapter of the Angels; the Chapter of the Prophets; the Chapter of Times; the Chapter of the Heaven; the Chapter of the Air and Space; the Chapter of Water; the Chapter of Trees; the Chapter of Rivers; the Chapter of Seas; the Chapter of Human Beings; the Chapter of the Jinn; the Chapter of Birds and Wild Animals; the Chapter of Beasts; the Chapter of Mountains; and the Chapter of the Conditions of the Physical World.

[Chapter of the Heaven]

Know that Allah bestowed upon Imam Husain (a.s.) several special qualities related to the heavens.

Among them is that He made the heavens the place to which his soul ascended on the day of his martyrdom.

The heavens wept for him with blood, [366] with red dust, [367] and with the redness of the twilight glow. [368]

And Allah granted to Karbala, in both outward and inward qualities, virtues greater than those granted to the heavens.

Likewise, He granted to Imam Husain (a.s.) qualities corresponding to those bestowed upon the seven heavens and what is above them—indeed, even better than them in spiritual qualities.

Reflect upon these meanings, and then look again at the visible created things.

Among these is that the heavens are the source of Divine grace and bounty, while Imam Husain (a.s.) is also a source of Divine outpourings, in a manner easier and more accessible.

The heavens are the place to which supplications ascend and from which their acceptance comes, while the name of Imam Husain (a.s.) is itself a means for the acceptance of supplications, as is evident from the accounts of Prophet Adam (a.s.), [369] Prophet Zakariyya (a.s.), [370] and others who sought intercession through the Five Pure Ones (a.s.).

To the heavens ascend the cries of the oppressed, and from Karbala ascended the cry of oppression in a unique manner.

زان تشنگان هنوز به عيوق مي‌رسد فرياد العطش ز بيابان كربلا

“From those thirsty ones, even now, the cry of ‘al-Atashal-Atash!’ (Thirst! Thirst!) reaches the highest stars from the desert of Karbala.”

To the heavens ascend the cries and weeping of orphans, causing them to tremble.

And from Karbala arose the cries of the orphans and captives in a unique manner.

Within the heavens was the Burāq, which carried its rider to the station of Qaab Qawsayn.

And in Karbala was Dhul-Janāḥ, whose rider attained the station of:

«أَنَا مِنْ حُسَيْنٍ»

“I am from Imam Husain (a.s.).”

Through his falling from the saddle.

The heavens are the ascension-place of the Prophets (a.s.), while Karbala is the ascension-place of the angels.

The heavens contain arrangements and influences that produce changes in the atmosphere, while Karbala contained events and conditions that affected even the heavens and the Throne itself.

[ صفحه 153]

The heavens and the Throne are filled with the voices of angels engaged in Tasbeeh, Tahleel, Takbeer, and Tahmeed, and with the ranks of those standing, bowing, prostrating, and worshipping.

But Karbala was filled with the cries of the helpless, the lamentations of the oppressed, the sobbing of the orphans, and the pleas of the thirsty.

One cried:

«يَا أَبَاه»

“O my father!”

Another cried:

«وَا أَخَاه»

“O my brother!”

Another cried:

«وَا وَلَدَاه»

“O my son!”

And another cried:

«وَا سَيِّدَاه»

“O my master!”

And these lamentations, in the sight of Allah, are superior in the station of servitude and submission to the Tasbeeh and sanctification of the angels.

Likewise, the heavens were the place where the angels prostrated for Prophet Adam (a.s.), while Karbala became the place where the Prophets (a.s.) and angels prayed over the body of Imam Husain (a.s.).

Allah made the heavens a protected roof (Saqaf Mahfoodh), while He made Karbala a sheltering roof for whoever seeks refuge in it.

Allah made the heavens a raised roof (Saqaf Marfoo'), while He made Karbala a roof that elevates the ranks of those who seek nearness through it.

From the heavens descends purifying water, while Imam Husain (a.s.) is one through whose blessing rain descends.

And during a prayer for rain, rain fell because of him and watered the lands. [371]

And because of him there descended a water that cleanses all sins, [372] and extinguishes the fire of Hell. [373]

That very water will be from the waters of Paradise, and it is the tears shed by those who weep for him.

The heavens are the place from which the outward sustenance of the servants descends, while Imam Husain (a.s.) is the source of their spiritual sustenance and that of their leaders.

We may further say:

In the heavens is the Mighty Throne, while in Karbala is the adornment of the Throne.

The heavens are the dwelling place of the angels, while Karbala is the place where angels continually come and go.

The heavens are Dhaat al-Burooj (possessors of constellations), and Imam Husain (a.s.) is likewise the possessor of constellations, as it is narrated, because he himself is an Imam, his father is an Imam, his brother is an Imam, and his descendants are the nine Imams (a.s.). [374]

[ صفحه 154]

In the heavens there is a house known as [375] al-dharaah, around which the angels circumambulate. Every day seventy thousand angels perform ṭawāf around it, and they never receive another turn.

And in Karbala there is a shrine over which seventy thousand angels are appointed. They remain there continually, and every day another seventy thousand angels descend there and depart, never to return again. [376]

The heavens are the place of Paradise, while Karbala is the place of Paradise’s adornment. It is a piece of Paradise and the resting place of the one from whose light Paradise was created, and who is the Master of the Youths of Paradise.

In the heavens is Jibrāʾīl (a.s.), while in Karbala is the one whom Jibrāʾīl (a.s.) serves.

The heavens were the place through which the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) journeyed by night, while Karbala was the place through which he journeyed by day.

In the heavens is the dome of Prophet Mūsā (a.s.), while in Karbala is the tree of Mūsā (a.s.). [377]

In the heavens is Prophet ʿĪsā (a.s.), while Karbala is the place associated with the birth of ʿĪsā (a.s.). [378]

The heavens contain the sun, which is at times eclipsed, while Imam Husain (a.s.) is a sun whose radiance increased whenever his afflictions intensified.

The heavens contain the moon, while Karbala contained the Moon of Banī Hāshim, al-ʿAbbās (a.s.), whose eclipse occurred when the enemies, like dust, came between him and the Sun of Imamate on the battlefield.

In the heavens is [379] Kaff al-Khadheeb which is a means for the acceptance of supplications, while in Karbala there is the blood-dyed head, the blood-dyed face, and the blood-dyed body, all of which are means for the acceptance of supplications.

[ صفحه 155]

The heavens contain the seven wandering planets, while Karbala contained the shining stars from the family of ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib.

The heavens contain one thousand and twenty-five visible stars, while the hidden stars are beyond counting. Yet on the body of Imam Husain (a.s.) there were four thousand visible wounds from swords, spears, and arrows, while the hidden wounds were beyond enumeration.

The heavens contain the Pole Star and Banaat al-Na'aash, while Karbala was the place of the Pole of Imamate, and his daughters wandered around his bier in bewilderment and distress.

In the heavens is a star known as [380] Raas al-Ghoul while in Karbala there was a ghoul carrying the head of the grandson of the Messenger (s.a.w.a.).

In the heavens is al-Bayt al-Ma'amoor, which stands opposite al-Ḍarāḥ and the Kaʿbah. Every day seventy thousand angels circumambulate it and never return for another turn. Likewise, for Imam Husain (a.s.) there are angels who circumambulate him, as has already been mentioned and will be mentioned again, if Allah wills.

The heavens contain the Majarrah (Milky Way), while Imam Husain (a.s.) bore upon his body a pathway of wounds whose traces will remain until the Day of Resurrection, for the station of interceding on behalf of sinners.
