The lam is read with emphasis; thus it was recited.

99-/5811 - Imam al-‘Askari (peace be upon him) said: “Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: And guard yourselves against a day when one soul shall not avail another in the least [1]—it will not ward off from it a punishment it has deserved at the time of the soul’s extraction—nor shall intercession [2] be accepted from it—to intercede for it by delaying death from it—nor shall any compensation [3] be taken from it—no ransom will be accepted in its place; he will die and be left as the ransom. [4]

Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: And this day is the day of death, for neither intercession nor ransom avails against it. But as for the Resurrection, indeed we and our Household will fully recompense on behalf of our Shi‘a. Surely upon the Heights—between Paradise and the Fire—will be Muhammad, and ‘Ali, and Fatimah, and al-Hasan, and al-Husayn (peace be upon them), and the pure ones from their family. We shall see some of our Shi‘a in those courtyards—those who were remiss—in some of its hardships, so we will dispatch to them the best of our Shi‘a, like Salman, and al-Miqdad, and Abu Dharr, and ‘Ammar, and their likes in the era that follows them, then in every era until the Day of Resurrection. They will swoop down upon them like hawks and falcons, seizing them as hawks and falcons seize their prey, and they will escort them swiftly into Paradise. And we shall send to others among our lovers, from the best of our Shi‘a, like doves; they will pick them up from the courtyards as birds pick up grain, and carry them to the gardens in our presence. And one of our Shi‘a who fell short in his deeds—after he had attained wilayah, taqiyyah, and the rights of his brothers—will be brought, and opposite him will be set from one hundred, and more than that up to one hundred thousand, of the nussab (enemies). It will be said to him: These are your ransom from the Fire. So these believers will enter Paradise, and those nussab the Fire. And that is what Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: Perhaps those who disbelieve—meaning in wilayah—will wish that they had been Muslims in the world, compliant to the Imamate, so that their opponents might be made their ransom from the Fire.”

99-/5812 - Al-‘Ayyashi: from ‘Abd Allah b. ‘Ata’ al-Makki, who said: I asked Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him) about Allah’s saying: Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims. He said: “A caller will call on the Day of Resurrection, audible to all creatures: None shall enter Paradise except a Muslim. Then the rest of creation will wish that they had been Muslims.”

99-/5813 - And with this chain, from Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon him): “Thereupon all creatures will wish that they had been Muslims.”

His saying, exalted is He:

Quran 15:4-8 (M. H. Shakir): And We did not destroy any town but it had a term made known. No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited.

5814/1 - ‘Ali b. Ibrahim said: His saying: And We did not destroy any town but it had a term made known means a written, appointed term. Then he related the saying of Quraysh to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family): O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane; Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones?—that is, “Why don’t you bring us the angels?” So Allah, Mighty and Majestic, responded to them: We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited—he said: If We were to send down the angels, they would not be given respite, and they would perish.

His saying, exalted is He:

Quran 15:14-18 (M. H. Shakir): And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, nay, we are an enchanted people. And certainly We have made strongholds in the heaven and We have made it fair seeming to the beholders. And We have guarded it against every accursed Shaitan, But he who steals a hearing, so there follows him a visible flame.

5815/2 - ‘Ali b. Ibrahim said: And if We had also opened to them a gate from the heaven and they kept ascending through it, they would have said: Our eyes have only been covered; rather, we are a people enchanted. And We have indeed set in the heaven constellations—he said: the stations of the sun and the moon—and We adorned it for the beholders with the stars. And al-Tabrisi narrated it from Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon him) [1]. And We have guarded it from every accursed devil—the meaning of “accursed” has already been discussed in Surat Al ‘Imran, in His saying: And I commend her and her offspring into Thy protection from the accursed Shaitan [2].

Al ‘Imran 3:36 (M. H. Shakir): And when she was delivered, she said: My Lord! surely I have brought it forth a female—and Allah knew best what she brought forth—and the male is not like the female, and I have named it Marium, and I commend her and her offspring into Thy protection from the accursed Shaitan.

5816/3 - ‘Ali b. Ibrahim: Except him who steals a hearing, so there follows him a clear flame—he said: The devils used to ascend to the heaven and eavesdrop until the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family) was born.

99-/5817 - ‘Ali b. Ibrahim said: And it is narrated from Amina, the mother of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family), that she said: When I conceived the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family), I did not feel the pregnancy, nor did what afflicts women of the burden of pregnancy befall me. I saw in my sleep as if one came to me and said to me: You have conceived the best of creation. Then I delivered him; he braced himself against the ground with his hands and knees, raised his head toward the sky, and a light issued from me.
