This Book, there is no doubt in it, is a guide to those who guard (against evil). Those who believe in the unseen. He said: “The muttaqūn are the Shī‘a of Ali (peace be upon him), and the unseen is the standing Proof (al-Hujjah al-Qā’im). The proof of that is the word of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: And they say: Why is not a sign sent to him from his Lord? Say: The unseen is only for Allah; therefore wait—surely I too, with you am of those who wait.”

Translation [Quran 10:24, M. H. Shakir]:

The likeness of this world's life is only as water which We send down from the cloud, then the herbage of the earth, of which men and cattle eat, grows luxuriantly thereby, until when the earth puts on its golden ornaments and it becomes garnished, and its people think that they have power over it, Our command comes to it by night or by day, so We render it as reaped seed; as though it had not been in existence yesterday; thus do We make clear the communications for a people who reflect.

Translation:

Ali ibn Ibrāhīm said: My father narrated to me, from Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl, from his father, from Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him). He said: I said to him: “May I be your ransom, it has reached us that the family of Ja‘far will have a banner, and the family of al-‘Abbās two banners. Has any knowledge of this reached you?” He said: “As for the family of Ja‘far, they are nothing and lead to nothing. As for the family of al-‘Abbās, they will have a delayed dominion; in it they will bring the distant near and push the near far, and their authority will be hardship with no ease in it. When they feel secure from Allah’s devising and safe from His punishment, a cry will be raised among them so that there will remain for them no power to gather them and no men to defend them. And it is the word of Allah: Until when the earth puts on its ornaments... (the verse).” I said: “May I be your ransom, when will that be?” He said: “Indeed, no time has been appointed for us regarding it. But when we tell you something and it happens as we say, then say: ‘Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth’; and if it turns out otherwise, then say: ‘Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth’; you will be rewarded twice. But when need and poverty intensify, and people begin to deny one another, then expect this matter morning and evening.” I said: “May I be your ransom, we know need and poverty, but what is people denying one another?” He said: “A man will come to his brother for a need, and he will meet him not with the face he used to meet him with, and he will speak to him not with the speech he used to address him with.”
