Qur’an 3:93 — Shakir: All food was lawful to the children of Israel except what Israel had forbidden himself, before the Taurat was revealed. Say: Bring the Taurat and read it, if you are truthful.
99-/1794 _1- Ali ibn Ibrahim said: Jacob was afflicted with sciatica, so he forbade camel meat for himself. The Jews said: Camel meat is forbidden in the Torah. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said to them: Say: Bring the Torah and read it if you are truthful. Israel only forbade this for himself; he did not forbid it for the people. This is a report about the Jews, and its wording is the wording of a narrative.
99-/1795 _2- Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub, from Muhammad ibn Yahya, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad or someone else, from Ibn Mahbub, from ‘Abd al-‘Aziz al-‘Abdi, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Abi Ya‘fur, from Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon him), said: Israel, whenever he ate camel meat, it aggravated the pain in his flank, so he forbade camel meat for himself. That was before the Torah was revealed. When the Torah was revealed, he did not forbid it, nor did he eat it.
99-/1796 _3- Al-‘Ayyashi, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Abi Ya‘fur, said: I asked Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon him) about Allah’s saying: All food was lawful to the Children of Israel except what Israel forbade himself. He said: Israel, whenever he ate camel meat, it aggravated the pain in his flank, so he forbade camel meat for himself. That was before the Torah was revealed. When the Torah was sent down, he did not forbid it, nor did he eat it.
99-/1797 _4- From ‘Umar ibn Yazid, who said: I wrote to Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him) asking him about a man who had made a disposition of emancipation (tadbīr) for his slave: does he have the right to sell [1] his neck [2]? He wrote back: All food was lawful to the Children of Israel except what Israel forbade himself.
Qur’an 3:95 — Shakir: Say: Allah has spoken the truth; therefore follow the faith of Ibrahim, the upright one, and he was not one of the polytheists.
99-/1798 _5- Al-‘Ayyashi, from Habbaba al-Walibiyya, said: I heard al-Husayn ibn ‘Ali (peace be upon them) say: I do not know anyone upon the creed of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) except us and our Shia. Salih said: There is no one upon the creed of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Jabir said: I do not know anyone upon the creed of Ibrahim (peace be upon him).
Qur’an 3:96-97 — Shakir: Surely the first house appointed for men is the one at Bekka, blessed and a guidance for the nations. In it are clear signs: the standing place of Ibrahim, and whoever enters it shall be secure, and pilgrimage to the House is incumbent upon men for the sake of Allah, upon everyone who is able to undertake the journey to it; and whoever disbelieves, then surely Allah is Self-sufficient, above any need of the worlds.
99-/1799 _1- Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub, from a number of our companions, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from ‘Ali ibn al-Hakam, from Sayf ibn ‘Umayrah, from Abu Zurarah al-Tamimi, from Abu Hassan, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), said: When Allah, Mighty and Majestic, intended to create the earth, He commanded the winds, and they struck the face of the water until it became waves; then it foamed and became a single froth, and He gathered it at the site of the House. Then He made it a mountain of froth, then He spread out the earth from beneath it. And it is the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: Surely the first House appointed for men is the one at Bakkah, blessed. He also narrated from Sayf ibn ‘Umayrah, from Abu Bakr al-Hadrami, from Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon him), the like of it.
99-/1800 _2- From him: from ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from al-Husayn ibn Mahbub, from Ibn Sinan, who said: I asked Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon him) about the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: Surely the first House appointed for men is the one at Bakkah, blessed and a guidance for the nations; in it are clear signs. What are these clear signs? He said: The Station of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), where he stood upon the stone and his feet left their imprint in it; the Black Stone; and the dwelling-place of Isma‘il.
99-/1801 _3- And from him: from ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr, from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar, who said: I said to Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon him): I stand to pray in Mecca, and a woman is in front of me sitting or passing by? He said: There is no harm. It was only named Bakkah because men and women are crowded together (yutabakkūna) in it.
99-/1802 _4- And from him: from ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Mahbub, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan, from Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon him), who said: I asked him about the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: And whoever enters it shall be secure—does it mean the House or the Sanctuary? He said: Whoever among the people enters the Sanctuary seeking its protection is secure from the wrath of Allah; and whoever among the beasts and birds enters it is secure.
