The Finger and the Ring

Āyatullāh Kumpānī

“In all the world, as long as this blue sky has existed, I have never heard That an Ahriman (devil) stole from Sulaymān both the finger and the ring.”

“The hand of the tyranny of fate severed a hand from the body, And from the depths of the created world arose cries and lamentation.”

“For the sake of meeting the Beloved, he offered the coin of his life, And what a life it was—indeed, all that existed in the treasury of being.”

“He sacrificed a youth for whom the eye of aged reason Opened a fountain of blood in mourning for his soul-refreshing loss.”

“The mother of the world lamented so intensely in mourning for him That the ear of the heavens became deaf from the sound of flowing streams of grief.”

« داد بهر جرعه‌اي از آب دري آبدار در كنار آب دريا، آه از اين سودا و سود »

“He gave a flowing sea in exchange for a single draught of water, Beside the waters of a river—alas for such a bargain and such a gain.”

“His ascension reached the station of ‘Q'aab Q'awsayn’ upon the peak of the spear, And his soul attained ‘Aw Adnaa’ when it descended into the furnace.”

“From the tip of the spear, the witness of the assembly of Truth raised his head, Showing the misguided the radiance of the candle of the spiritual path.”

“Though his head was upon a spear, yet from his love for the Beloved came forth a melody, A melody the like of which was not found in the flute of Dāwūd (a.s.).”

“At times he illuminated the Christian monastery more brightly than the sun; At times you would think he was the Messiah (a.s.) upon the gallows of the Jews.”

“With his lips and teeth, I know of no companion except the stick of Yazīd’s oppression— Alas for such conversation and such companionship.”

“What that ruby-like lip endured from the tyranny of the age was already beyond measure; Why then did the bamboo cane add yet another affliction?”
