Concerning the Special Characteristics of the Place of That Noble One (a.s.) After His Birth

Concerning the Special Characteristics of the Place of That Noble One (a.s.) After His Birth

Regarding the special characteristics of his abode after his birth, we say:

The first place in which he rested after his birth was the hands of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.).

It is narrated that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) was standing in the room awaiting the birth of that noble one (a.s.). When he was born, he came forth in the posture of prostration (sujūd).

The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) called Asmāʾ and said:

“Bring me my son.”

She replied:

“We have not yet cleansed him.”

He (s.a.w.a.) said:

“You will cleanse him? Allah has already purified and cleansed him.”

So she brought him wrapped in a woolen cloth.

The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) took him into his own hands, looked at him, and wept.

Then he said:

“How grievous your affair is for me, O Abā ʿAbdillāh.” [167]

After that, at times he would be upon the shoulders and neck of Jibrāʾīl (a.s.),

At times upon the shoulders of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.),

Or upon the chest and back of that noble Messenger (s.a.w.a.). [168]

At times he would be in the Prophet’s hands when he would raise him up in order to kiss his mouth.

At times he would raise him up so that he could show him to the companions and commend him to them. [169]

At times, while the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) was in prostration, Imam Husain (a.s.) would ride upon his back. [170]

At times he would be in the hands of Amir al-Muʾminin ʿAli (a.s.), who would hold him while the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) kissed all the limbs of his body. [171]

And the final place of that noble one (a.s.) in this world was upon the chest of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) during the Prophet’s final illness.

The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) would kiss him and say:

“What has Yazid to do with me? May Allah never bless him.” [172]
