Hud Ayah 56

He said: The moon was under the inauspicious influence of Saturn for seven nights and eight days.

So that We might send upon them a stinging cold wind in a day of bitter ill-luck, tearing men away as if they were the trunks of uprooted palm-trees. How terrible was My chastisement and My warning! And as to Ad, they were destroyed by a roaring, violent wind, which He made to prevail against them for seven nights and eight days constantly, so you might have seen the people therein prostrate as if they were the trunks of hollow palm-trees. Do you then see any remnant of them? (al-Haqqah 69:6-7, and related context)

99-/5127 _3-

99-/5127 (Tafsīr al-Qummī 1:330): Then ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm said: My father narrated to me, from Ibn Abī ʿUmayr, from ʿAbdullāh ibn Sinān, from Maʿrūf ibn Kharrabūdh, from Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him). He said: “The barren wind issues forth from beneath the seven earths, and nothing has ever come out from it except against the people of ʿĀd when Allah became wrathful with them. He commanded the keepers to let out from it an opening equal to the width of a ring, but it defied the keepers, and there came out from it an opening like the size of a bull’s nostril, out of its rage against the people of ʿĀd. So the keepers cried out to Allah about that and said: ‘Our Lord, it has rebelled against us, and we fear that those among Your creation who did not disobey You and the inhabitants of Your lands may be destroyed.’ So Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sent Gabriel, who pushed it back with his wing and said to it: ‘Go out only as you have been commanded.’ It returned and went out as it had been commanded, and it destroyed the people of ʿĀd and whoever was in their vicinity.”

99-/5128 _4-

99-/5128 (al-Kāfī 8:64/92): Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb—through his chain—narrates from Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him), in a hadith: “As for the barren wind, it is a wind of punishment: it leaves nothing of wombs to conceive, nor anything of vegetation, and it is a wind that comes out from beneath the seven earths; and never has a wind from it come out except against the people of ʿĀd when Allah, Exalted, grew angry with them.”

And he mentioned the hadith as above, with slight variation in some wording.

Surely I rely on Allah, my Lord and your Lord; there is no animal but He holds it by its forelock; surely my Lord is on the right path. (Hud 11:56, M. H. Shakir)

99-/5129 _1-

99-/5129 (Tafsīr al-ʿAyyāshī 2:42/151): Al-ʿAyyāshī, from Abū Maʿmar al-Saʿdī, said: ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (peace be upon him), regarding His saying “Surely my Lord is on the right path,” said: “It means that He is upon truth: He recompenses good with good, and evil with evil; and He pardons whom He wills and forgives—Glory be to Him and Exalted is He.”

And to Thamud (We sent) their brother Saleh. He said: O my people! serve Allah, you have no god other than He; He brought you into being from the earth, and made you dwell in it; therefore ask forgiveness of Him, then turn to Him; surely my Lord is nigh, answering. (Hud 11:61, M. H. Shakir)
