Ar-Ra'd Ayah 16

It concerns the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted: “and their shadows in the mornings and the evenings.” He said: It is supplication before sunrise and before sunset, and it is an hour of response.

Quran 13:15 — And whoever is in the heavens and the earth makes obeisance to Allah (alone), willingly and unwillingly, and their shadows (also) in the mornings and the evenings. (M. H. Shakir)

5510-/4 Al-‘Ayyashi: From ‘Abdullah ibn Maymun al-Qaddah, who said: I heard Zayd ibn ‘Ali say: O company of those who love us, will no one among the people help us? For if the people were able to love us, they would love us. By Allah, our lovers are more tightly hoarded than gold and silver. Indeed, Allah created what He would create, then He made them shades; then he recited this verse: “And to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly and unwillingly,” then He took our covenant and the covenant of our Shia; not a single one of them will be diminished, nor will a single one be added among us.

Quran 13:16 — Say: Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth? Say: Allah. Say: Do you then take besides Him guardians who do not control any profit or harm for themselves? Say: Are the blind and the seeing equal? Or, do the darknesses and the light equal? Or have they set up with Allah associates who have created creation like His, so that what is created became confused to them? Say: Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Supreme. (M. H. Shakir)

5511-/5 ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim said: “Say: Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth? Say: Allah. Say: Do you then take besides Him guardians who do not control any profit or harm for themselves? Say: Are the blind and the seeing equal?”—meaning the believer and the unbeliever. “Or do the darknesses and the light [equal]?” As for the darknesses, that is unbelief; and as for the light, it is faith. Then he said regarding His saying, “Say: Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth? Say: Allah”: the verse is decisive (muhkam).

Quran 13:17-18 — He sends down water from the cloud, then the valleys flow with water according to their measure, and the torrent bears along the swelling foam. And from what they melt in the fire for the sake of making ornaments or apparatus arises a scum like it; thus does Allah compare truth and falsehood; then as for the scum, it passes away as a worthless thing; and as for that which does good to men, it tarries in the earth; thus does Allah set forth parables. For those who respond to their Lord is good; and (as for) those who do not respond to Him, had they all that is in the earth, and the like of it with it, they would certainly offer it as a ransom. (As for) those, an evil reckoning shall be theirs, and their abode is hell, and evil is the resting-place. (M. H. Shakir)

5512-/6 And ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim said regarding His saying, “He sent down water from the sky, then the valleys flowed according to their measure”: the large [valley] according to its largeness, and the small according to its smallness. “[Then] the torrent carried along a swelling scum; and from what they heat in the fire for the sake of making ornaments or goods, there is a scum like it.”
