English: From al-Ridha (peace be upon him), from his forefathers, he said: “Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) said: When any of you seeks a need, let him begin early on Thursday to pursue it, and when he leaves his house, let him recite the end of Surat Aal ‘Imran, Ayat al-Kursi, Inna anzalnahu, and Umm al-Kitab, for in them are the needs of this world and the Hereafter.”
English (M. H. Shakir): Have you not considered him (who disputed) with Ibrahim about his Lord, because Allah had given him the kingdom? When Ibrahim said: My Lord is He Who gives life and causes to die, he said: I give life and cause death. Ibrahim said: Surely Allah causes the sun to rise from the east; then make it rise from the west; thus he who disbelieved was confounded; and Allah does not guide the unjust people. [Al-Baqara 2:258]

English: Al-Ayyashi, from Aban, from Hujr, from Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him), said: “Ibrahim (peace be upon him) opposed his people and denounced their idols until he was brought before Nimrod, and he disputed with them. Ibrahim said: My Lord is He who gives life and causes death. He said: I give life and cause death. Ibrahim said: Indeed, Allah brings the sun from the east, so bring it from the west. Thus the disbeliever was confounded, and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.”

English: From Abu Basir, who said: When Yusuf entered upon the king, he said to him, “How are you, O Ibrahim?” He said: “I am not Ibrahim; I am Yusuf, son of Ya‘qub, son of Ishaq, son of Ibrahim.” He (the narrator) said: And he was the companion of Ibrahim who disputed with Ibrahim about his Lord. He said: And he was a youth for four hundred years.

English: From Hanan ibn Sadir, from a man among the companions of Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: I heard him say: “The people with the severest punishment on the Day of Resurrection are seven persons: the first of them is the son of Adam who killed his brother, and Nimrod son of Canaan who disputed with Ibrahim about his Lord.”

English: Ali ibn Ibrahim said: When Nimrod cast Ibrahim (peace be upon him) into the fire and Allah made it coolness and peace upon him, Nimrod said: “O Ibrahim, who is your Lord?” He said: “My Lord is He who gives life and causes death.” Nimrod said to him: “I give life and cause death.” Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said to him: “How do you give life and cause death?” He said: “I take two men upon whom the death penalty is due; I release one and I kill one, thus I have given life and caused death.” Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said: “If you are truthful, then give life to the one you killed.” Then he said: “Leave this. Indeed, my Lord brings the sun from the east, so bring it from the west.” And it was as Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: “So the disbeliever was confounded,” meaning silenced, for he knew that the sun preceded him.

English: Abu ‘Ali al-Tabrisi said: There is a difference about the time of this disputation. It is said—according to Muqatil—that it was at the breaking of the idols, before he was cast into the fire; and it is said—according to al-Sadiq (peace be upon him)—that it was after he was cast into the fire and it was made for him coolness and peace. He also said: And it is narrated from al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) that Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said to him: “Give life to the one you killed, if you are truthful.”
English (M. H. Shakir): Or the like of him who passed by a town, and it had fallen down upon its roofs; he said: When will Allah give it life after its death? So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years, then raised him to life. He said: How long have you tarried? He said: I have tarried a day, or a part of a day. Said He: Nay! you have tarried a hundred years; then look at your food and drink—years have not passed over it; and look at your donkey; and that We may make you a sign to men; and look at the bones, how We set them together, then clothe them with flesh; so when it became clear to him, he said: I know that Allah has power over all things. [Al-Baqara 2:259]

English: Ali ibn Ibrahim said: My father narrated to me, from al-Nadr ibn Suwayd, from Yahya al-Halabi, from Harun ibn Kharija, from Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: “When the Children of Israel committed sins and rebelled against the command of their Lord, Allah wished to empower over them one who would abase them and kill them. So Allah, Exalted, revealed to Jeremiah: O Jeremiah, what is the land that I have chosen from among the lands, in which I planted the most noble trees, but it went back on that and produced carob? Then Jeremiah informed the rabbis of the Children of Israel, and they said to him: Go back to your Lord, that He may inform us of the meaning of this parable. Jeremiah fasted for seven (days), and Allah revealed to him: O Jeremiah, as for the land, it is Bayt al-Maqdis; and as for what was planted in it, they are the Children of Israel who …”
