12. Punishment for Sin and Being Overly Exacting with Believers (Chapter 69)

1- مع، معاني الأخبار أَبِي عَنْ سَعْدٍ عَنِ الْبَرْقِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‏ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ يَا فُلَانُ مَا لَكَ وَ لِأَخِيكَ قَالَ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ كَانَ لِي عَلَيْهِ شَيْ‏ءٌ فَاسْتَقْصَيْتُ عَلَيْهِ فِي حَقِّي فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- وَ يَخافُونَ سُوءَ الْحِسابِ‏ أَ تَرَاهُمْ خَافُوا أَنْ يَجُورَ عَلَيْهِمْ أَوْ يَظْلِمَهُمْ- لَا وَ لَكِنَّهُمْ خَافُوا الِاسْتِقْصَاءَ وَ الْمُدَاقَّةَ[1].

2- ل، الخصال عَنِ الصَّادِقِ ع قَالَ: لَا يَطْمَعَنَّ الْمُعَاقِبُ عَلَى الذَّنْبِ الصَّغِيرِ فِي السُّؤْدُدِ[2].

1- Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) said to a man: “O so-and-so! What is the matter between you and your brother?” The man replied: “May I be your ransom, he owed me something, and I demanded my full right from him with complete exactness.”

Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) said: “Tell me about the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic:

﴿وَ يَخافُونَ سُوءَ الْحِسابِ﴾

‘And they fear an evil reckoning.’ (Surah al-Ra'd 13:21)

Do you think they feared that Allah would be unjust to them or wrong them? No. Rather, they feared exact accounting and meticulous scrutiny.”

2- Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) said: “Let not the one who punishes for a small sin hope to attain nobility and leadership.”
