Al-Isra Ayah 103-109
[Qur’an 17:103-109]
M. H. Shakir: So he desired to destroy them out of the land, but We drowned him and those with him all together. And We said to the Children of Israel after him: Dwell in the land; and when the promise of the hereafter comes to pass, We will bring you all together. And with truth have We revealed it, and with truth did it come; and We have not sent you but as a giver of good news and as a warner. And it is a Quran which We have revealed in portions so that you may read it to the people by slow degrees, and We have revealed it in portions. Say: Believe in it or do not believe; surely those who are given the knowledge before it, when it is recited to them, they fall down on their faces making obeisance, And they say: Glory be to our Lord! most surely the promise of our Lord was to be fulfilled. And they fall down on their faces weeping, and it adds to their humility.
O Pharaoh: “O disobedient one.”
His saying, the Exalted: “So he desired to unsettle them from the land” — up to His saying — “and they fall down upon their chins weeping, and it increases them in humility.” [103-109]
99-/6578
99-/6578 - ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhīm said: In the narration of Abū al-Jārūd, from Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him), regarding His saying: “So he desired to unsettle them from the land”: “That is, he intended to expel them from the land. And Pharaoh and his people knew that none sent down those signs but Allah. As for His saying: ‘And when the promise of the hereafter comes to pass, We will bring you all together,’ it means: all of you together.”
/6579 _2-
99-/6579 - In the narration of ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhīm: “So he desired (i.e., Pharaoh) to unsettle them from the land,” meaning to drive them out of Egypt. “So We drowned him and those with him all together. And We said after him to the Children of Israel: Dwell in the land; and when the promise of the hereafter comes to pass, We will bring you all together,” meaning from every direction. He said: His saying, the Exalted, “And a Quran which We have divided, that you may recite it to the people by slow degrees,” that is, unhurriedly; “and We have sent it down in portions.” Then He said: O Muhammad, “Say: Believe in it or do not believe; surely those who were given knowledge before it,” meaning the People of the Book who believed in the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family), “when it is recited to them, they fall down upon their chins, prostrating” — he said: upon the face — “and they say: Glory be to our Lord! Most surely the promise of our Lord was to be fulfilled. And they fall down upon their chins weeping, and it increases them in humility.” They are a people from among the People of the Book who believed in Allah.

99-/6580 - Muhammad ibn Ya‘qūb, from ‘Ali ibn Muhammad, with his chain, said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (peace be upon him) was asked about one who has an ailment on his forehead and cannot prostrate upon it. He said: “He should place his chin on the ground, for Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says: ‘They fall down upon their chins, prostrating.’”
99-/6581
99-/6581 - ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhīm said: My father narrated to me, from al-Sabbāḥ, from Ishāq ibn ‘Ammār, from Abū ‘Abdillāh (peace be upon him). I said to him: A man has a sore between his eyes and cannot prostrate on it? He said: “He should prostrate upon what is between the edge of his hairline; if he cannot, then on his right eyebrow; if he cannot, then on his left eyebrow; and if he cannot, then on his chin.” I said: On his chin? He said: “Yes. Do you not read the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: ‘They fall down upon their chins, prostrating’?”

His saying, the Exalted:

[Qur’an 17:110]
M. H. Shakir: Say: Call upon Allah or call upon the Beneficent God; whichever you call upon, He has the best names; and do not utter your prayer with a very raised voice, nor be silent with regard to it, and seek a way between these.

99-/6582 - Muhammad ibn Ya‘qūb, from Muhammad ibn Yahyā, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from ‘Uthmān ibn ‘Īsā, from Samā‘ah, said: I asked him about the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: “And do not utter your prayer with a very raised voice, nor be silent with regard to it.” He said: “Khafṭ (lowering the voice) is below the level of your own hearing, and jahr (loudness) is to raise your voice intensely.” And al-Shaykh narrated it in (al-Tahdhīb) with his chain from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from ‘Uthmān ibn ‘Īsā, from Samā‘ah. He said: I asked him about the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and he transmitted the hadith to its end. [1]
