S 56 Ayat 35 to 38
99-/10401 "Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, Then We have made them virgins, Loving, equals in age, For the sake of the companions of the right hand," [Surah Al-Wāqi‘ah 56:35–38, M. H. Shakir]
99-/10404 ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm, regarding the saying of Allah, the Exalted: "Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth" [Surah Al-Wāqiʿah 56:35, M. H. Shakir], said: "This refers to the ḥūr al-ʿīn in Paradise."
"Then We have made them virgins" [56:36], "Loving" (ʿuruban)—he said: "They speak Arabic."
And His saying: "Equals in age" [56:37], means: "They are of equal age."
"For the sake of the companions of the right hand" [56:38]—he said: "They are the companions of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him)."
99-/10405 In Kitāb Ṣifat al-Jannah wa al-Nār: from Abū Jaʿfar Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿĪsā, from ʿAwf ibn ʿAbdillāh, from Jābir ibn Yazīd, from Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him), who said:
"Indeed, the Lord—Blessed and Exalted is He—says: ‘You enter Paradise by My mercy, and you are saved from the Fire by My pardon, and you divide up your places in Paradise by your deeds. By My might! I shall certainly settle you in the abode of eternity, the abode of honor.’ So when they enter it, they shall be upon the height of Adam—seventy cubits tall— and at the age of Jesus—thirty-three years— and upon the tongue of Muhammad—Arabic— and in the beauty of Joseph— then light will shine from their faces— and upon the heart of Ayyūb—in purity from malice."
99-/10406 And from him, with this same chain of transmission, from Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him), who said:
"Indeed, the people of Paradise are beardless and hairless, kohl-eyed and adorned, crowned and adorned with necklaces, delighted, sealed with rings, in bliss, rejoiced and honored. Each one of them is given the strength of a hundred men in eating, drinking, desire, and intimacy. He will experience the pleasure of his lunch for the duration of forty years, and the pleasure of his dinner for the duration of forty years. Allah has clothed their faces with light, and their bodies with silk. Their complexion is bright, their ornaments golden-yellow, and their garments green."

99-/10407 And from him, with this same chain of transmission, from Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him), who said:
"Indeed, the people of Paradise shall be given life and will never die, they shall awaken and never sleep, they shall be enriched and never experience poverty, they shall rejoice and never grieve, they shall laugh and never weep, they shall be honored and never humiliated, they shall enjoy themselves and never frown, they shall be delighted and gladdened forever, they shall eat and never hunger, they shall drink and never thirst, they shall be clothed and never be naked, they shall ride and visit one another forever. The immortal youths shall greet them endlessly, in their hands are silver pitchers and golden vessels, they will recline on couches forever, on thrones they will gaze forever. Greetings and peace shall reach them from Allah endlessly. We ask Allah for Paradise by His mercy— indeed, He is powerful over all things."
99-/10408 And from him, through his chain of transmission, from Jābir, from Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him), who said:
"Indeed, the ground of Paradise—its pavement is of silver, its soil is of safflower and saffron, its sweepings are musk, and its gravel is pearls and rubies."
99-/10409 And from him, through his chain of transmission, from Jābir, from Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him), who said:
**"Indeed, the couches (asīrratuhā) of Paradise are of pearls and rubies, and that is the saying of Allah: 'On decorated couches' [Surah Al-Wāqiʿah 56:15, M. H. Shakir]— meaning the centers of the couches are made from rods of pearl and ruby, over which are draped canopies. And the canopies themselves are made of pearls and rubies—lighter than feathers and softer than silk. And upon the couches are layered cushions, equal in area to sixty rooms from the rooms of the world, stacked one upon another.
And that is the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: 'And exalted couches' [Surah Al-Wāqiʿah 56:34, M. H. Shakir], and His saying, the Exalted: 'On thrones, gazing' [Surah Al-Muṭaffifīn 83:23, M. H. Shakir]— meaning: the couches are those adorned couches with canopies above them."**
99-/10410 And from him, through his chain of transmission, from Jābir, from Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him), who said:
**"The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: The rivers of Paradise flow without carved channels. They are whiter than snow, sweeter than honey, and softer than butter. The soil of the river is pure musk, and its pebbles are pearls and rubies.
In its springs and rivers flows whatever the friend of Allah desires and wills within his gardens. And if all who are in the world from jinn and mankind were to be his guests, he would suffice them with food, drink, garments, and jewelry— and nothing from his share would be diminished in the least."**

There is no pit in them.
The length of each cluster is twelve cubits, neatly layered from top to bottom. Nothing is taken from it except that Allah restores it as it was. And that is His saying: 'Neither intercepted nor forbidden' [Surah Al-Wāqiʿah 56:33, M. H. Shakir].

**"The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: The lowest in rank among the people of Paradise from among the martyrs will have twelve thousand wives from the ḥūr al-ʿīn, four thousand virgins, and twelve thousand non-virgins. Each of these wives will be served by seventy thousand servants.
As for the ḥūr al-ʿīn, their portion will be doubled. He will visit each of them once a week, and when the time of one of them comes—be it her day or her hour— they will all gather around her and call out with voices —no voices more beautiful or more pleasing than theirs— such that nothing in Paradise remains except it trembles from the sweetness of their sounds. They will say:
“Indeed, we are the everlasting, never to die, ever. And we are the blessed, never to be afflicted, ever. And we are the pleased, never to be displeased, ever.””**

99-/10413 ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm said: My father narrated to me from Ibn Abī ʿUmayr, from Abū Baṣīr, from Abū ʿAbd Allāh (peace be upon him), who said:
“The believer will be married to eight hundred virgins, four thousand non-virgins, and two wives from among the ḥūr al-ʿīn.”
I said: “May I be your ransom! Eight hundred virgins?” He said: “Yes. He will not lie with any of them except that he finds her still in that state.”
I said: “May I be your ransom! From what were the ḥūr al-ʿīn created?” He said: “From the radiant soil of Paradise. The marrow of her shin is visible from behind seventy garments. Her liver is his mirror, and his liver is her mirror.”
99-/10413 (continued)
I said: “May I be your ransom! Do they have speech by which they speak to the people of Paradise?” He said: “Yes. Speech with which they speak—no created being has heard anything like it, nor sweeter.”
I said: “What is it?” He said: “They say, in soft melodious voices: We are the everlasting ones—never shall we die, We are the blessed ones—never shall we suffer, We are the abiding ones—never shall we depart, We are the content ones—never shall we be displeased. Glad tidings to him who was created for us, And glad tidings to us, for we were created for him. We are the ones—if a single hair from any of us were hung in the sky, its light would dazzle the eyes.”

99-/10414 Al-Ḥusayn ibn Saʿīd in Kitāb al-Zuhd: from al-Naḍr ibn Suwayd, from Durust, from one of his companions, from Abū ʿAbdillāh (peace be upon him), who said: "If a ḥawrāʾ from among the ḥūr al-ʿīn were to appear before the people of the world and reveal just a single lock of her hair, she would either captivate the people of the world—or cause the death of the people of the world [due to its overwhelming beauty]. And indeed, when someone is performing ṣalāh, if he does not ask his Lord to marry him to the ḥūr al-ʿīn, they say: ‘How indifferent this one is to us!’”
99-/10415 Al-Ṭabrisī in al-Iḥtijāj: from al-Ṣādiq (peace be upon him) — in his response to the question of a zindīq (heretic) — the man asked him: “How is it that it is said the people of Paradise, when one of them approaches a fruit and takes it, once he eats it, it returns to the way it was?” He (peace be upon him) replied: “Yes, that is like the example of a lamp — someone comes and lights from it, yet its light does not decrease at all. Likewise, the entire world could be filled with lamps taken from it, and its light would remain undiminished.”
99-/10415 (continued) He said: “Do they not eat and drink, while you claim they have no need?” He (peace be upon him) replied: “Indeed, because their nourishment is delicate and leaves no waste; rather, it exits their bodies as perspiration.”
He said: “How is it that the ḥawrā’ (maiden of Paradise) remains a virgin each time her husband comes to her?” He (peace be upon him) said: “Because she is created from fragrance — no defect touches her, no affliction mixes with her body, nothing flows in her cavity, and menstruation does not defile her. Her womb is sealed and smooth, allowing no passage except for the male organ.”
He said: “And she wears seventy garments, yet her husband can see the marrow of her shins through her garments and her body?” He (peace be upon him) replied: “Yes, just as one of you can see silver coins if they are thrown into clear water, as deep as the length of a spear.”
He said: “How can the people of Paradise enjoy its pleasures while each of them has lost a son, or a father, or a loved one, or a mother — and if they do not find them in Paradise, they will not doubt that they are in the Fire being punished? So what benefit is there in bliss for the one who knows that his beloved is being tortured in the Fire?”
He (peace be upon him) replied: “Indeed, the people of knowledge have said: they will forget their memory. And some of them said: they will await their arrival and hope that they may be among those between Paradise and the Fire — the companions of al-Aʿrāf.”
99-/10416 Shaykh (al-Saduq) in Majālisih said: A group informed us from Abū al-Mufaḍḍal, who said: Rajāʾ ibn Yaḥyā Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Kātib narrated to us in the year three hundred and fourteen (314 AH), and in it he died. He said: Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Shammūn narrated to us, he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to me, from al-Fuḍayl ibn Yasār, from Wahb ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Dubbayy al-Hunaʾī, who said: Abū Ḥarb ibn Abī al-Aswad al-Duʾalī narrated to me, from his father Abū al-Aswad, from Abū Dharr:
99-/10416 From the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family), he said to him: “O Abū Dharr, if a woman from among the women of the people of Paradise were to appear from the sky of the worldly realm during a dark night, she would illuminate the earth more radiantly than the moon on the night of the full moon, and the fragrance of her scent would be sensed by all the inhabitants of the earth. And if one of the garments of the people of Paradise were displayed today in the world, whoever looked upon it would be struck unconscious, and their vision would not be able to bear it.”
And he (peace be upon him and his family) said: “By the One Who revealed the Book upon Muḥammad, the people of Paradise shall increase in beauty and loveliness just as people increase in ugliness and aging in the world.”

Muhammad ibn Ya'qub, from Abu Ali al-Ash'ari, from al-Hasan ibn Ali al-Kufi, from ‘Ubayys ibn Hisham, from Salih al-Hadha’, from Ya‘qub ibn Shu‘ayb, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: "When the Day of Resurrection arrives, one of the veils of Paradise will be uncovered, and its fragrance will be detected by anyone possessing a soul from a distance of five hundred years—except for one group." I asked, "Who are they?" He said: "The one who is undutiful to his parents."

99-/10418
And from him: from a number of our companions, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid, from Muhammad ibn Ali, from Muhammad ibn Furāt, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: "Beware of disobedience to parents, for indeed the scent of Paradise is perceived from a distance of one thousand years, yet the one who is undutiful to his parents, or one who severs ties of kinship, or an old man who commits fornication, or one who drags his garment in arrogance—none of them shall perceive it. Verily, grandeur belongs only to Allah, the Exalted, Lord of the worlds."
99-/10419
Ibn Babawayh, through his chain of narration, from ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Ḥasan ibn al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī, from his father, from his grandfather (peace be upon them), said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "Whoever says, 'ṣallā Allāhu ʿalā Muḥammad wa ālihi', Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says: 'ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayka'—so let him say it abundantly. And whoever says 'ṣallā Allāhu ʿalā Muḥammad' and does not send blessings upon his family shall not even smell the fragrance of Paradise, and its fragrance is perceived from a distance of five hundred years' travel."
And the narrations on this matter are numerous; this is not the place to mention them all, for fear of lengthening the discourse.
