[Qur'an 30:60] Therefore be patient; surely the promise of Allah is true, and let not those who have no certainty hold you in light estimation. (M. H. Shakir)

99-/8377 2 - Ali ibn Ibrahim said: "Meaning, 'do not let them anger you.' He said: Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) was praying, and Ibn al-Kawwa' was behind him. As Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) recited, Ibn al-Kawwa' said:

'And certainly, it has been revealed to you and to those before you: Surely if you associate (with Allah), your work would certainly come to naught and you would certainly be among the losers.' [Qur'an 39:65]

Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) remained silent until Ibn al-Kawwa' stopped. Then he resumed his recitation, and Ibn al-Kawwa' repeated it again, doing this three times. On the third occasion, Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) recited:

'Therefore be patient; surely the promise of Allah is true, and let not those who have no certainty hold you in light estimation.' [Qur'an 30:60] (M. H. Shakir)"

99-/8378 3 - Al-Shaykh in (Al-Tahdhib), through his chain from al-Husayn ibn Sa'id, from Hammad ibn 'Isa, from Mu'awiyah ibn Wahb, from Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him):

I asked him about a man who leads the prayer, while you are not pleased with him, in a prayer where the recitation is aloud.

He (peace be upon him) said: "When you hear the Book of Allah being recited, then remain silent and listen."

I said: "But he testifies against me with shirk (associating others with Allah)?"

He replied: "If he disobeys Allah, then you obey Allah."

I repeated my question to him, but he refused to give me permission otherwise.

I then asked him: "Can I pray at home first, and then go out to join him?"

He said: "It is up to you."

Then he said: "Indeed, Ali (peace be upon him) was praying the Fajr prayer, and Ibn al-Kawwa' was behind him. Ibn al-Kawwa' recited aloud:

'And certainly, it has been revealed to you and to those before you: Surely if you associate (with Allah), your work would certainly come to naught, and you would certainly be among the losers.' [Qur'an 39:65]

Ali (peace be upon him) paused, in reverence for the Qur'an, until Ibn al-Kawwa' completed reciting the verse. Then Ali (peace be upon him) resumed his recitation. Ibn al-Kawwa' again repeated the verse, and Ali (peace be upon him) paused again. After Ali (peace be upon him) resumed recitation, Ibn al-Kawwa' repeated it a third time. Then Ali (peace be upon him) recited:

'Therefore be patient; surely the promise of Allah is true, and let not those who have no certainty hold you in light estimation.' [Qur'an 30:60] (M. H. Shakir)"
